cobra sells a lot and they are like $100 or $120 at best buy. they got these new SILVER BULLET ones that are cordless for $130 and $150. if you want a good one, they got the valentine, but it's expensive as hell.

i have the whistler.... i think that is what it is called. But, it does work good, saved me over 100 times and i think it is under 100 dollars, maybe even 60. I will check if you want later. But... you can spend 200-300 on a good one. The only difference is that it will catch the police earlier. With mine, you have plenty of time to slow down. It saved me 3 times today. Or you can get a "jammer" where it messes up the reading on the radar gun. Personaly, i wouldn't buy one of those. I don't know much about this, so someone help me out. I know valentine is a really expensive one, but thats all

valentine 1 or escort are the only truly good radar/laser detectors on the market.

escort... way too much money unless you are planning on going over 100 on every road you go on. Police don't always have their radars on, and if you fly past them and they don't have their radar on, they can still catch you for speeding. In that, i will find what kind I have later, becuase i know that it does work. Everytime too.

laser gives the police an almost instantanious reading. even the best detectors will give you at max a little over a second to slow down.... they really arent worth it imo... and if a cop sees it he is more likely to pull you over. every state has a book that is almost 3" thick full of rules, regulations, and restrictions for automobiles. if a cop wants to give you a ticket... he can always find something.

excatly.... especially if you get a jammer, which i think the escort is. I do have a whistler and for the money, it is worth it. I don't have that exact model though that is shown from ebay.

as stated before, if their radar or laser guns are not on, the radars don't work. the cordless escort runs for $330 at my best buy. it's the best one we have. there is all the escord passport 8500 which is like $250. anyways, you give a price range and i will tell you what you can get from best buy.

I would get a Valentine 1 radar detecor. You dont have to drive 100 mph just to use one like mentioned above. You could be going 45 on a 35 zone with a speedtrap somewhere on the side and can still save you from a ticket. It will come in handy one day especially in congested roads.

My BEL-985 costed me $200 but had sold it for money problems last year. That saved me about 7 times.

The best thing about the valentine is that when there is a signal being picked up, the unit itself shows you the direction of where its coming from. (+) Up, Down, Left, Right.

Lasers are hard to keep steady in a cops point of view if there are plenty of cars around you. If you were the only car visible on the road, then most likely after getting tagged with a laser, you are probably dead. Look that up online for a better explanination...

I wouldn't mess with the cheaper brands. I would save up again to get a top notch one that acutally works and not give off false readings from supermarket doors opening...etc...

Read the 2004 radar reviews and tests...

The best ones are probably the ones that have sensors on the front and back of your bumpers. They are the most expensive radar locaters on the market.

the way i think about it is, if you want something good, spend the money on a valentine or something. mostly everything under $100 is for peace of mind. they do help, but they don't give you all the accurate readings with enuf time to make a move. i had a radar and i was going 95mph on the parkway. the radar didn't pik up the cop becuz he was in the median after a small bridge. also, you have to be somewhat at a level surface in order to get a good signal. there the cop is too much higher or lower, you won't get a good signal with the cheaper ones. think about it before you buy one.

thats true about most things... but honestly, my cheap ass whistler really works. I was plesently surprised... my gf gave it to me cuz her grandpa died and she didn't want it, so its not like i had to spend any money. Anyways, i go about 80 in a 55 every day to school. There is a huge hill and you can't see what is on the other side. well my radar beeped about 15 seconds before i could even see the cop. then when i did, i slowed down... didn't even have to break... and all was good. I am not saying go out and buy whistler becuase you do get what you pay for... but i think it just depends on what you want. Mine does the job for me.
