Shifter play

Ok well im pretty sure i no what the problem is but before i go out and buy something i might as well check. My shifter goes into gear and has alot of play from right to left and some up and down play.. So all i would need is a bushing kit correct? And that should make everything nice and snug like it is susposed to be?

Today while i was cleaning my car i finished cleaning. And i decided to move it in my driveway closer to my garage.. Well i reversed fine then i tried putting it into first guess what? My shift linkage fell out lol strange never even heard of this before. But i just bought this car and i noticed there was no bolt holding the shift linkage in place? So i found the right bolt and bolted that right up hopefully that will not come loose ever again while im driving lol. Where is the bushing exactly for the shifter? Is it the bushing underneath the car like the shift linkage or is it under the boot for the shifter? My friend was telling me it was under shifter like under the boot But not quite sure havent really looked..

To be honest with you man, when I got my car it had an eBay short shifter in it, and the bearings at the bottom of the shifter were broke....

See the bearing at the bottom?

There are 2 shifter bushings. 1 bushing goes on the end of the shift linkage where it connects to the transmission. That's held on by 1 bolt. The other bushing is directly under the shifter on the underside of the car. 2 bolts hold that one in. You may have to drop the exhaust to change the one underneath the shifter but I have seen people do it without doing so.

Polyurethane bushings take A LOT of play away. I have an Energy Suspension one on the shift linkage and it felt MUCH more crisp. I keep procrastinating changing the one underneath the shifter since it's a pain. ES sells shifter bushing kits (the 2 bushings I mentioned) for around 25-30 shipped. Just FYI - the black ES bushings are graphite impregnated, which means the rubbers property is lubricated. The red ones are not graphite impregnated and should be used with the provided lube.

Wow see i guess it has happened haha i just never even thought about such a thing happening. i mean of course it would fall off if he didnt put a bolt into it which idk why there wouldnt be??! lol And yea i went to local hardware store got the correct thank god but i think i need a longer one or the bracket is a little bent and didnt go threw the other side and dont even have a nut on it so might have to take another trip to the store haha just in case never want that problem againn...

As for the ebay short shifter yea thats ebay for yaa ;) haha jk.. There are some quality products and some arent on ebay thats just how it is..

And yea John after i posed this i did a little more research like i should of before hand :X.. but anyways right below i saw an ad for the engery one i am deff going to purchase these i think because i dont want to miss a gear or anything i finnaly have a good tranny and clutch dont want to have any problems later on.. But i thought there more then two i no the two your talking about tho but i could be wrong.. And just those two bushings can cause shifter play?

Those 2 bushings can cause a lot of shifter play. You should notice a fairly big difference while shifting.

I have washers on the sides of my shifter where the bushings are... I've had a problem with the shifter loosening up on me... the nut keeps coming loose from the one bolt and gives me a TON of play...

I got some thread locker and went underneath to apply it. PITA with a 3" exhaust in the way, took me a good 20 minutes to pull off one nut, apply the thread lock and re-tighten... buuuut so far so good.
