Si cam in DX

Ok si cam (a6) in d15b2. I hear alot of different things about it. Some say use y8 cam gear to make up for the 1/2 tooth timeing change because of the keyway. Then i heard "you have to use adjustable cam gear" Then the ever popular "jest drop it in, and see what happens!" Also, will i have to adjust the valves to a6 spec?

I've never heard of upgrading a d15b2 with an a6 cam. I think people use the cam off a JDM d15b on their d16's. I may be wrong tho.

d16a6 cam in a d15b2/7

first of all, d15b2/7 and d16a6 use teh same head casting.

differences are the camshaft and springs, thats it.

the d16a6 cam drops in, use d16a6 valve lash adjustment,(always follow the cam for thsoe specs)

you use a d16y7 or d16y8 camgear to bring it to factory spec timing.

This is to make up teh deck height difference.

There are the rare occasions that this doesnt work


This is when teh d16a6 cam is from a 88 SI motor. these infact have the same cam timing as the d15b2/7 motors. Honda changed this so the d16a6 motor would time better, as it was picky over that half of tooth to get max power and gasmileage within reason

Keep in mind though about that 1988 cam. its a rare occasion, but if its running rough after the swap, you can bet you simply need to swap the b2 or b7 cam gear back on.

I suggest getting an adjustable camgear from ebay or a good brand with at least 4 bolts, if you cannot confirm the year of teh d16a6 cam you are buying

the degree difference is 4.75 degrees, but I forget if on a 89-91 a6 cam, if it needs retarding or advancing to correct the cam timing.
