clear lenses look better on a VSM car, especially if you have the red/clear tail lights. but the amber bulb is for better visibility.
You're probably thinking that the amber bulb will make the clear lens look amber, thus defeating the purpose...but it's not that bad.
My E46 was like that, and it looked just fine
