sirius antenna install

THE REAL DEAL

Banned
I can't seem to find a good place to install this damn thing. I tried the roof near the rear window but the wires wont tuck under the weatherstrip very well. I've seen a few installs on newer civics where the antenna is mounted near the windshield but the weatherstrip is the same as it is on the rear window. Anyone have any ideas?

you could run the wires up through the stock antenna location and mount it on the front

Good idea, but there wouldn't be enough surface area around the A pillar for the antenna to mount.

theres always the trunk too, as for the front mount, i think its possible to put it on either the front or back dash, not sure if it works inside the car, or mount it to the front of the roof but run the wire near the stock one, i've been toying with the idea of custom mounting one in one of those antenna bolck offs, the little cap thing you can put in when you remove the OEM one

I've seen the trunk mount before. I dunno. Since you're already going to mount it on the outside, you might as well put it up as high as you can.

it will work on the dash but it cuts out a lot. the antenna was made to sort of use the body as a signal amplifier.

i'm leaning toward the front of the roof near the windshield, runing wire through the OEM antenna location

Ok, run the wire through the OEM radio antenna location and then.............go to where? If you run it up the A pillar, there is no where to go unless you fish it through the body, drill a hole in the middle of the roof are and pull the wire through. I'm sure it could be done, but as far as I know, the current antennas are made to be run through the molding and not through a pilot hole.

Put it inside, it worked for my XM antenna. I have it on my dashboard as close to the windshield as possible and have had no problems =)

i installed two sirius units on a 1999 civic and 2000 civic and i had no problem with them hiding under the weatherstrips. i installed the atenna at the middle right over the rear window. all you do is lift up and weatherstrip and shove the wires in there, there is a lot of room, use your finger nails to get them under deep.

well when i tried to push them under the weatherstrip with a pair of 2nd grader scissors (they dont have a sharp tip) the two wires wouldnt stay under it

....just get someone to do it. those antennas are extrememly delicate.....if you so much as get a crimp in the wire it's f**ked. I'm an mobile installer at Best Buy in Macon, GA....and just so you know, I would never mount the antenna at the rear window unless it was a pickup truck or a hatchback.....either mount it on the trunk lid or above the front windshield...the weather strpping will either lift up a lil bit or complete pop off.

why pay some shop up to 100 or even more for some simple install. i dont know what cheap antenna you installed but the kenwood sirius antenna i put on got smash, pulled, stomp on, step on and it was working perfectly fine. i had my install in both cars for over a year and had no problems. running it through the front windsheild would still need to run it through the weatherstrips.

you can get a magnetic weatherproof cover for the wire, and just run it on top of the roof, near the rain gutter, i've seen it done many times, you just unscrew the OEM antenna plate and fish the wire through the pillar to the headunit. theres plenty of room in the pillar and in the seal on the OEM antenna block for the wire

i've been wondering about this stuff to.. since i work for the company i'd like to actually have it in my car.. i've been hearing about some kind of an antenna that is just like a wire with a little sensor on the end that just goes in the rubber around the window and doesnt acutally have a little box or whatever anyone ever herd about this?
