Speakers for Bass? Subwoofer and Amp?

I want to find a way to increase the lows in my 2001 civic. I can hear the lows when I turn the volume up, but that also increases the hi's and it can damage your ears. I was wondering if I could possibly find a good 6.5" rear speaker that could possibly increase the lows without getting a subwoofer. Or would I have to give in to buying a sub and amp and wasting away half my bank account and my trunk.

if you want highs and lows you can get better all around sound by replacing the factory speakers yes. No you wont have lows like a sub would give you. But if you just buy a sub and amp it will more than likely dround out your mids and hi's. I saying you already have an aftermarket deck i would just replace the factory speakers. But that all matters what kind of power you are looking for. and as for damaging your ears LoL thats what you live for... There are other options like bass tubes from bazoka and a few other ones you just plug and play. not sure what they are i like my heavy bass so i have a 15 and two amps running it and a 4channle running my other speakers... Good Luck

You can't increase lows from 6.5's (unless you want to put down massive $$$ on 6.5 subwoofers).
Here's a nice budget example from Crutchfield (imo the best audio website).
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_206DS62/Kicker-DS6-2.html?tp=106

At the same time, for $150 you can pick up an amp ($50), sub ($50), box ($30), and wires ($20) from walmart. I really feel you should go this way, a dedicated subwoofer system is much better than any 6.5" solution. And if you haven't ever heard subs before, you'll be amazed at how much you're missing.

if he is doing a quality and decent system, that sub alone will run you 150. what i would do is replace the speakers, this will already help and then get a headunit that has the ability to tune them. treble can be turned down some and bass increased slightly. alpine has great headunits, mine gives me complete control of everything. This will not give you thumping bass though, only one you can hear more.

if you want a lot of bass, you need a sub.

if he just gets a sub it will drownd out all the mids and hi's... Its not as simple as just buying a sub and putting it in... start with a deck and work your way up... Just like 1sikcivic said speakers then head unit... if your a beginer at this its the easier to start that way... you start buying amps and subs and enclosers... next its eq's, crossovers and four channel amps and capaciators... lets not for get the little but expensive wires, rca's, distirbutor block, fuse blocks, circut breakers... theres more to it than just a speaker... just like building an engine you didnt just slap the cold air intake and exhaust on there and think you gained 100hp did you? I would hope not...

I respectfully disagree. Any deck will allow you to adjust subwoofer loudness until it compliments your speaker loudness. For example, on my Kenwood unit, you can switch the rear outputs to sub output. Then a new menu item appears in the EQ options, and you can adjust the subwoofer output, from -8 all the way to +15. Not to mention you can always tweak settings at the amplifier.

I will agree though that if he wants a system done well, he will need to spend money on quite a few things. I was merely suggesting that if he wants to do it "cheap 'n dirty" that he buys a wally sub, or gets the kicker 6.5's. It will give him the low end that he's looking for.

Another question, how many speakers and what sizes do I have in my car? it's a 2001 civic LX. I know there are 2 in the door and some in the trunk, but what sizes are they and how many are there? Im thinking the trunk speakers are 6.5" and the doors are possibly 5.25"? or are they 6.5" as well? I don't have tweeters so I'm planning on getting 3 or 4 way speakers. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

You've got 6.5's in the front doors, and two 6.5's in the rear deck. for a total of 4.
3 and 4 ways sound awesome, the 4 ways have super tweeters for awesome treble.
How much do you want to spend?
You can get decent speakers for $50 a pair, or great speakers for $250 a pair. My $50 Sony 6.5's 4-ways are loud and clear, and my small bass setup (10" pioneer) compliments them well. I've never heard a $250 pair of door speakers though, so I can't say how much better they are, or if they're worth it.

If you need to know any info on car audio specs for your car, i recommend using crutchfield. they will also tell you what fits in your car and what wont. but DONT buy from them. just find what you want

Yeah I was planning on getting a pair of 6.5" Kickers in the back and some 3 way speakers in the doors. Do you think that'll add the bass I'm looking for? I don't want so much that you can hear me from a mile away.

@1SIKCIVIC - Why not buy from crutchfield? The reason I like CF so much is they include manuals and instructions that are specific to your car. I'm not a big car person, and I'm not willing to pay a big car person to install it, so those manuals really help. Especially with the door, I heard replacing door speakers for 7th gen civics are very difficult.

EDIT: I was thinking of getting these kickers for the rear. And these 3-way's for the front doors.

I find them to be over priced, i find the same speakers for much cheaper. As for installing, i wouldnt pay anyone either. its very easy to do. Replacing a door speaker isnt hard in any car for me, but for you if it is. it may be worth paying the extra. But if you know what your doing and dont need a manual, i wouldnt buy from them.

You can always find it online how to install a door speaker

Yeah theyre much cheaper on Amazon. But i think with a little research it shouldnt be too hard to install them. youre right. and can you look at my edit and tell me if those would work? and if there are any better options? Thanks!

Civv, those are subwoofers that u posted for the rear. Did you want those to be in the speaker ports, if so, dont bother getting extra subs, or i will hear u from a mile away
