If you get ripped on Ebay it's your own fault...I don't buy from personal sellers... I only purchase from Ebay retailers with feedback in the thousands.

thats f**kin lousy. I've ordered tons of s**t from stores and I've never had a problem...Besides the one time I got an indash where the AUX picture imputs were dead but the unit was brand new and sealed...I didn't feel like going through the trouble of returning it though.

If yo are going to be using ipod control I would personally run the Alpine. The Kenwoods buffering of ipods is the slowest on the market. I havent played with the panasonics, but out of all the decks you listed the alpine is the best for ipod connection.

bump for any info on those headunits

Also is there any major difference between the Alpine 9856 and the 9857?

And most of them say "iPod Ready" that means i have to buy the cable or the adapter separately correct?

 yes, $150...I would think the price would tell you that.

Mainly it is the 2 line "bio-lite" display and the advanced iPod controls (presets just jump through your library) Personally I don't think the 9857 is worth the $150 price jump. Although the display is nice for iPods and satellite radio.
