Yes it is. U can fry the battery, amp or subs. Also the sparks r a fire hazard and you can also get a nice shock.

Fyi: I worked at a custom audio shop and I saw one of my workes place his hand on the battery posative. It melted his gold ring to his fingure.

as for wire connectors you can get them at home depot or a radio shack or even bestbuy..
