I recently decided to sell my Audiobahn 1206Ts. I'm looking to get some diferent subs. Does anyone know of some high quality subwoofers that take between 500-700W RMS and won't cost me over 250 bucks (for two). What do you guys think of JL Audio and MA Audio??? I prefer JL Audio over MA any day of the week. I just want some UNBIASED opinions.

...it would help if you said what size subs you were looking for.

JL makes nice subs, I had a pair of 12W3v2 and they could hit pretty low..I guess it all depends if you are into SPL or SQ. I'm sure PAguy can tell you of some thumpin subs that nobody here has even heard of:lol:

but yeah, I picked up a couple of infinity kappa perfects because I was hearing nothing but good things about them and I got them for 240 shipped=)

I'm thinking two JL Audio 12W6v2 subwoofers. What amp would be great for pushing them at 500W RMS each??

Also, the amp would have to push 500W RMS in a dual 4 ohm setup. Can you guys name the amp and give me the price of it.

your going to want to run sopmething extremely clean on the jl subs. Look into one of jl amps, alpine, zapco or something along those lines. Dirty amps tend to damage jl subs

watts are watts, there is no such thing as a clean watt or a dirty watt. there is a difference between a pyramid 1000 watt amp though, and a memphis 1000 watt amp. the pyramid will probably put out about 200-300 watts where the memphis will put out somewhere in the 700 range with a stock electrical system. the only way a sub of any kind would be damaged by an amplifier is if the amplifier were being driven into clipping, which is not uncommon with subwoofers because they are generally in the trunk, and it would not be as audible as your speakers in the cab. its like Digital Designs saying DO NOT USE OUR SUBS WITH JBL amplifiers. there really is no real reason behind that, they just dont like JBL. I am not endorsing going out and purchasing a crap amplifier though. Processing is a different story altogether, and generally cheap amplifiers have crappy x-overs.

as far as subs for 2 12s.... I am again going to recommend CDT, I am sure you can get a pair shipped for right around 200.00 I am not trying to be partial to the brand, but they are an excellent deal. Infinity perfects were already said, they are a very good subwoofer as well. You can also get your hands on some image dynamics subs for that price as well, but I have yet to listen to their cheaper line below the IDQs, which are excellent.

anyway, here are some choices

CDT CL1215
Infinity Perfect
Image Dynamics IDQ
Resonant Engineering SX12 (1)
Alpine Type R 12s (loud, but not nearly as accurate as the rest)

actually, why not just consider 1 12? you can pick up an IDMax for around 250 in a dual 2 configuration if you are running a 1 ohm stable amp, that is actually what I would do.

Thanks. I'm having a hard time finding a 1 Ohm stable amp that will push two subs at 500W RMS.

Good recomendation, the id max rocks.
And as far as a 1 ohm stable amp, you could get the job done with a non mono amp 4 ohm load with the right amp and have it sound better.
The reason jbl amps arent that great is thier damping factor sucs ass. Amps just cant control the power they are letting out

If you have to go 1 ohm Memphis st1000

4 ohm zapco reference 1000 much better amp

Alpine and Clarion are loud, but the wauality sometimes insnt that great. Probably the bes sounding subs i have ever head were two 10" fosgate punch. The Punch sound soo clear. Not as loud but a huge deep tone. For sound quailty go with them, In 10's. All 12's are louded but you can hear the air. It's loud bass but sound quality goes down the pooper. The punch line is pretty cheap too i think. The cheapest ones and the most unique (both look wise ^ and sound quality wise  are the sony xplod.

Ok. I think I've decided what I want. I've read up on the IDMax 12D2 and it sounds amazing. I've also read up on the Memphis amps and they sounds amazing too. I will probably follow that idea. Which Memphis amp should I use? On ebay there are several 1000W RMS amps from Memphis but I'm not sure which one to choose. Also, where can I get the Sub at for 250 and what is a good price to pay for the amp? Oh which version of the sub is 250? V2 or V3?? Let me know guys. Your help rocks.

Personally, I prefer a class AB amp running at a higher ohm load as opposed to a class D amp running at around 1, but I dont think most of these guys will notice a difference, and a good class D will be more forgiving on their cars.. =) its too bad you guys missed out, there was a factory buyout on old Lanzar Vibe1200ds on ebay a few months back, and you could pick them up for about 145.00 shipped BNIB.

If you get the idmax, DO NOT PUSH ON THE CONE! period. they are VERY sensitive, and it can cause it to lose its alignment. as far as an amp, i found a good budget amp if you want to take a look. Its a refurb, but should suit your needs just fine. the memphis is a great amp, but a little pricey if I am not mistaken.

I am not a big believer in buying subs off ebay, but here is an auction you might want to take a look at.

and you may also want to take into consideration the RE SX12.

my friend is out of town, he will know the best place to get an IDMAX since ID is all he will own.

Sucks that I can't tell if they pushed on the cone lol. I haven't chosen the memphis for sure so your thoughts on an AB amp are very welcome.
