And here I thought I was being transparent... Yeah, I suppose I need to be a little clearer. I was asking all of the above. 1: How do you install a subwoofer? I think that was answered.
2: What is a good subwoofer? I am thinking of adding 4 total in stages. I do a lot of outdoor activities. So cargo space is key. It isn't strange to see my little wrx have a surfboard, bike, air compressor, and other misc crap inside. True, I could just use my roof rack half the time, but I don't like putting that thing on. In addition to killing gas mileage it makes a lot of noise when you are going speeds in excess of the legal limit.
What I had in mind was 2 small subs 1 to go under each seat. This would not use up any valuable cargo space. Also hopefully this would not backrupt me as I am still poor. After that and after I have more money I plan on adding two seperate subwoofers in the trunk. One on each side right behind the back seat. I don't want to do it seperately, because if they went in as one box it would prevent me from being able to put skiing inside my car (fold down middle section of the backseat.)
3: is it possible/stupid or wise to put in 4 subwoofers in the way described above.
4: Should I use two seperate amps, one for the front set of subs and one for the back or one for each, or one for all four?
5: Also is there a point to hooking up an amp to speakers, or are they mostly just intended for subs?
6: Will this desired setup be too high of a strain on my car's electicity producing capactiy?
7: Where is a place to get good quality but still insanely cheap stuff... without the use of a handgun or the saying "upside your head" ???
I'll just start off by saying that you were far from being clear on what your trying to accomplish.
1. How do you install a subwoofer. Most subwoofers require some kind of enclosure for the sound waves to bounce off of creating bass. A seal enclousure / ported box would more than likely be required. Those are the two most commonly used enclousures. A amplifier would be required as a power source. These things are needed before going into more detail about installing them.
2. There are many types of manufactors that produce / sell subwoofers. Some of the best subwoofers are not determined by size , but how much power is generated in the sub and the type of sound quality coming from it. Another way to find out a type of quality subwoofer , even before listening to it is by researching and figuring out for yourself parts of the subwoofer and the quality of each part. Such as the coil , cone , frame , wires , etc. Each part is different from one manufactor to the other. So I recommend you understand the anatomy of a subwoofer atleast before going out and purchasing one.
3. It is possible to do the setup.. However , more than likely it would cost you $$$$$ do have it accomplished and more than likely you would not be happy with the outcome. Agian , as previously stated.. the amount of bass is considered by the quality of the subwoofer and how much power your drawing to it. Not neccessarily how many subs you have. People who you see in shows with a billion speakers in their rides do it mainly for show.. Not sound. Since you considered yourself Poor folk , I'd recommend you only getting one subwoofer. Considering the type of music you listen to and how valuble cargo space is to you... 4 subs or even 2 subs maynot even be nesscessary.
4. Amps go in sections called Channels. Typically , each speaker ( in short ) is considered a channel ( including subwoofers ) There are Mono ( or one channel ) amps , two channel , 4 channel , multi-channel ( five or more ). You can bridge channels too... but that requires two or more channels and it gets more complicated to explain without confusing you already.
5. Amps can be used for both. People usually use amps for the front and/or rear speakers to draw more power to the speakers ( in turn becoming louder ) and helping with distortion. Unlike regular speakers which can be powered from a source ( headunit )... Subwoofers require amps because they draw soo much power.
6. Your setup you came up with would atleast require atleast a upgrade battery and possibly a upgraded alternator just to be safe. For your planned setup... You could also get a battery cap which is a unit that will help store energy when you need it. Or you could run two good quality batterys all together.
7 The setup you desire ( if done properly ) will definately not be cheap. My reccomendations aren't cheap either... but it should be cheaper than what you originally desired. You can always go cheap. Do the research cause it'll only benifit you in the end. Sound systems can be a complicated thing , that can involve more than just sound and bass. But just like most things in life. You usually get what you pay for.. so I recommend you do it right the first time.
