thanks for taking this one Reallynicecivic, awesome post man, i'd agree with only getting one sub, i was running 2 and once blew, so i'm currently running one and it sounds as good or better than 2.
Thanks... I'm acutally trying to see if I can become a Mod for this part of the forum ( audio / video / electronics ) , so I'm trying to share as much as I know about this kinda stuff. :D

i'm running a single JL dvc 10" sub with an 800watt soundstream amp pushing it...... i can set off car alarms while driving through parking lots ;)
Good amp + Good sub = Mad bass. lol I sampled soundstream produces recently and I was amazed with the type of quality and products they have on the market... second best overall manufactor after JL audio in
my opinion. :thumbs up

The difference in sound quality and output between the performance of one driver with 300 watts, and two driver's with say a total of 600 watts is rarely enough to justify the added cost for a second subwoofer and larger amp.

Eric
That's one of the major disadvantages in having too many speakers / subs... Too much bass can cancel out sound from other speakers.

i FULLY agree with that, but old soundstream ownz new soundstream just fyi.
i just got a really nice 6 channel soundstream amp, i'm gonna have it pushing my entire system with a soundstream crossover, 2 soundstream 10" dvc subs, JL audio components, and a pioneer DEH-P8500MP deck.... it looks nifty, but i hate it and it's only temporary.
and of course my screen, modded xbox, and i just picked up a clarion 12v VCR for shits and giggles.

the deck should be for sale soon, here's a pic

Thx Reallynicecivic,
That was a really good response. I just have one follow on question.
I relize the quality of the sound is determined by the quality of the subs and not the number of subs. However, my biggest objection to subwoofer setups that I have seen is that they tend to be regional. In other words the person in the back seat has a far different experience than someone in the front seat. For instance the person in the back gets more of a defining back massage while the people in front get good quality sound and can actually talk to one another. The desired outcome of my 4 subwoofer system is a better sense of balance between the front and back.
So my question is : Is my understanding of how this would work more or less right? or is my understanding of how subwoofers work off in some way?

You wont be able to get the same sound with your back sitting 6" from the drivers (backseat) as you would sitting 4' in front of them...(driver/passenger seats). Besides, the sound is for YOU sitting in the front seat, so who cares what it sounds/feels like in the back seat.

Also Subs will only cancel out High frequencies and 'muddy' them or distort the sound. Subs will not cancel each other out..
