I went to irving to look at this 2000 Civic Hatch DX auto... it has 113,500 miles (dont know if hwy miles or waever) on it.... has some dents all around the car other whise car looks clean... interior is impecable... my main concern is engine and tranny ( for now need it for a daily driver)... Civic Temptress test drove it told me that she had to put her foot on the gas a lil more than usual to get it to go... they asking roughly $4500 for it.. Is it worth it? Car does have A/C and P/S. and if i decided to switch it to a a manual how much would that cost me? Anyone in Irving area willing to go test drive the car for me to see wassup with it? Would be appreciated... Thanks!!

get a compression test on the engine before u do anything. also, check the car's VIN for more insight on its history

a 00 with that many miles? :shockl:

but i think its worth the 4500, just rebuild the engine to have the miles pretty much taken off and you got a nice car.

as far as auto to 5spd, it shouldnt cost that much, but go the right places to buy your stuff, and find a good but cheap guy to do it, or do it yourself

you're better off finding a 5spd right off the bat

Sounds like the throttle cable is loose. If you do buy it, be sure to tighten the cable. It takes 30 seconds and one adjustable wrench.

The mileage is entirely too high. I bought a 98 about 2 years ago, and it had 35,000 on it. You'd need a motor and transmission swap, which would run you in the neighborhood of $2,000 ($800 parts (D16Y7), $1200 labor). You'd have a relatively unreliable 2000 Civic for $6500. You could, however, but in a D16Y8 for about $500 more, and have a 120hp, 2000 Civic with low a low mileage engine for $7000. That's not TOO bad, but it seems like a lot of unneccessary trouble and stress to get it there.

Thanks for all the suggestions.. I know I thought 4500 was a bit much i checked blue book but ti seems to be just right... but u know if I get the car i dont want to have to invest more money jus to get it up to par for a reliable daily driver... As far checking carfax... I mean from what I was told itll show the history on the car as long as someone or some shop claims u know what I mean? What if someone tried to ghetto fix it in their garage would never know about it.... he said 4200 with TT&L. And will the dealership do all the compression test, throttle cable and everything? we also noticed the maintance light is red... so they need to fix waever it is to get it back to green..I also found a 5 speed in Houston same model 96k on the motor (its an ls motor swap) only its a 96..clean in the pics but then again u never know.. point is I wanna ge tthe car b4 someone else does just dont wanna get it and regret it... car does have alot of potential i can see it... but for now daily driver...

the maintenance thing isn't a light. it's more of an odometer lol. put the key into the hole and it goes back to green.

Keep looking and don't get anxious. You'll find the Civic you're looking for. Don't forget Edmunds.com - they have a value calculator that takes into account, mileage, location, and even color. And as for Carfax, the important part there is to verify the mileage on the engine. Every time you get an oil change, or any repair or maintenace, your mileage is logged. If on the report it jumps up and down, or all of the readings are higher than what the seller is telling you, something is wrong.

Cha, I just picked up a 97 hatch in the DFW area for $6k... interior is perfect, and only has a little over 60k miles on it (pictures in my signature link).... $4,500 is too much for an auto with that many miles... trust me, just keep checking autotrader, and they'll pop up eventually.
Also... some dealerships are nice enough that you can tell them a specific thing that you're looking for, and they will actually try to get it at an auction for you... I know McNatt Honda in Desoto was doing this for me a couple of years ago.
I would NOT pay that much for a '00 with that many miles though...

Lucky, yes... that's probably the ultimate understatement. And yeah, she runs like new :P

My only two complaints at present time are the front bumper and exhaust tip (appears as though the original tip was cut off, and a HUGE 5" tip was welded in it's place.)

Other than that, I'm very happy with everything else.

I got a few car audio components ordered today, and bought another 5" TV screen which I may or may not use... this next weekend I will be doing the audio re-install with all MY components (two CDT Audio 8" subs, one CDT Audio 12" sub, CDT Audio component set up front, two Orion 5002 amps, one for the components, and one for the 8" subs, and one Orion 9002 for the 12")... 4 gauge main power cables.... to be continued... 8)
