I would go for the b18 and keep saving and supercharged it later down the road. The b16 doesn't really have torque although the super charger would help think the b18 would still be better.
I was thinking of that too. By the time i get around to s/c the b18, another few months and il hopefully have a subie. thanks for input thoughI would go for the b18 and keep saving and supercharged it later down the road. I am doing this to build credit. Also because I have this bad problem... where i get to bored driving the same damn thing for more than a year. The subie wont be coming for at least three. I figure, i have a great civic so why not. Ive been leaning towards a B18 the whole time... As for installing a full swap, tranny and all, i dont have near enough tools, lifts, jacks. Not even a garage to work in. Otherwise id consider more. How much will it generally be to install a full engine, tranny swap? With a decent shop.Just curious, but if your main goal it seems is to get a subbie then why not just save and put the money towards that. I am in no way telling you not to do this, but with your power goals your giving yourself a tiny amount of time to do it in and then you want to buy another car. Also id get the b18 and also install it myself cause a shop is gonna charge alot to do it and your already looking at least 2k for the motor itself depending on where you buy it what kind of hook ups you got.
If you do decide to do it like i said id go with a b18 install it myself and if you want more power turbo and a good tune.
i wouldnt say that. a stock c5 normally makes around 170-175 to the wheels, bolt ons may get you 15whp for the 200 so that would be a drivers race really because the sc b16 would have a torque advantage. torque wins races man. Also i had a turbo b16 on 14.5lbs and i loved it so damn much. i got 351whp and 226tq out of it and i miss it daily all i did to the motor was head work and supporting mods for the turbo. i miss my eg hatchA b18c5 with bolt on would be as fast if not maybe faster than a b16 with a SC but not even a 10th of the fun-ness. I have an STI swapped WRX, they're no joke.
Sounds sick man. What happened to it? I think ive decided on a bolt on b18c5, it will be fast enough to hold me over until a subie, with alot less headache than turboing a b16. Thanks though.i wouldnt say that. a stock c5 normally makes around 170-175 to the wheels, bolt ons may get you 15whp for the 200 so that would be a drivers race really because the sc b16 would have a torque advantage. torque wins races man. Don't launch the subie to much it's hard on the tranny and drivetrain I have a friend with and sti and a wrx with cobb, bad stuff happens if you do crazy awd launches. Thir awesome though... Just a heads upI was thinking of that too. By the time i get around to s/c the b18, another few months and il hopefully have a subie. thanks for input though
i was aware that compression is too high on the c5 for boost, unless built. You can find the c5 swaps online... but i see what you mean. im from burrillville actually, and am very familar with cumbyland. haha. never heard of bills junkyard though. will def check it out. ive been researching engines for hours on end. lolop where in RI are you from im from Cumberland dont go to a shop they will rape you on the cost of a swap seeing they charge 400+ for a simple clutch job. Honestly if you want something fun do the b16 with a simple turbo no more than 8 psi on stock internals upgrade ur fuel system obviuosly. If you are wise and savy most parts can come right out of bill's junkyard , your b16 will be good up till 300whp on the stock internals with a very good tune. If you have a plan just research it and see it till completion. I want to know why hasnt anyone talked about the compression of the C5 and how it isnt good for turbo. If you have your heart set on turbo and not alot of money just do a ls and enjoy it till it eventually blows and pick another one up ls are very easy to find in RI, i just sold a complete swap for $900 harness and ecu. B18C5 arent that easy to come by if u blow it and a LS is just about on any corner. That is my opinion obviuosly some ppl have others
awesome that you got it all for a good price and thanx for trying to do wat everyone else on every forum does is bash someone. The kid is talking about buying a swap off the internet name a site with a gsr swap under $1800. Do you believe he has the knowledge to do a swap himself he was already talking about bringing a car to a shop so they would do the swap for him. then he would need the knowledge of piecing together a turbo using dsm parts i.e. dsm injectors, or a td04h. Im not assuming he knows how to tune him self or he even has a p28 ecu that he had chipped ready for data logging and a eprom burner. So my best guess is that him considering he would pay out the a** for ppl to do the work for him itll run 6000k. Me personaly i got my b16 swap for $500 because i purchased the em1 totaled from a auction and piece together a dsm hybrid turbo for less than $500. So pls dnt assume that they are dumb amounts you have to consider everyones situation....damn my last ls swap I got for free so come on dude lets stop the trollingjust to throw all these dumb amounts of money out the window
I have EVERYTHING I need for a b20 swap and turbo capable of trapping 110mph
I have 2k into entire setup, not including pump and tune which Im doing myself
all on where you shop, 6k for 300whp LMAO
I hear you bro Im a do-it-yourself kinda guy i did my own b16 swap with a cherry picker and 2 days in my drive way all by myself. When i drove to pa and my differential blew i changed the tranny the next day in the dark with a simple 10 piece deep well socket set lol that sucked balls. Im not bashing anyone hear but im saying if he doesnt have the knowledge or resources he is going to have to pay for someone to do . I wanted a 1jz so bad when i had my 92 supra but just couldnt afford it myself or had the tools to do it when i was 17. He lives about 10 min away i could help him with all of it if he really needs it but hey lets get away from this because it isnt really a productive to this post. If i was him i would get a fairly cheap ls swap and piece together a dsm turbo kit i run it till it diesIt's easy work researching and doing everything yourself. I swapped a 2jz motor out with my dad in his mkiv supra when I was 17 and all I did was research. I built my old civic from stock to what it was before I sold it all from learning to do things myself. Its very do-able. The money you'll save from having a shop install your motor for you and the money you'd spend buying an already pieced together kit, you'd be able to order some brand new Mugen mf8's. Not to mention the respect you get from doing your own work. Anyone can pay someone else to do the work for you while all you do is just drive it and take it to walmart for the oil change. But what do I know I'm a noob
Thanks man for the great advice. I looooove cars and screwing around with them. I would love to learn how to do a full swap dont get me wrong, but i only have my car to get to arlington ma everyday from RI.. so i need it. I dont own an engine jack or more than one jack yet. Maybe i will start researching the ls and doing the swap myself. I love the accomplished feeling of doing things yourself but its hard when ya dont have equipment. then again, i could improvise. HMMMMM... will i need a new tranny for the ls? or literally just the ls motor, ecu, etc...I hear you bro Im a do-it-yourself kinda guy i did my own b16 swap with a cherry picker and 2 days in my drive way all by myself. No what Im trying to do is save the kid from spending thousands of dollars on a car and get ripped off like 9 out of 10 shops are out to do He will be MUCH happier and save a s***load of money doing it himself. They are dumb amounts, youre putting 6k into a 3k dollar civic, and I dont think the kid is dumb enough to do that. Hell he can buy 2 swapped cars for that price. And dont tell me to stop trolling, clearly you just went through all my threads and posts to find all your info.awesome that you got it all for a good price and thanx for trying to do wat everyone else on every forum does is bash someone. 6k into a civic is chump change consider the price of a decent after market cat back or the price of F2 coilovers with Bwr camber kit and your at $2000 right there, not even considering a decent exhaust manifold to tide him over till boost. What about ppl with fully built gsr with more than $12K into just the motor and thats in a $2k civic so $6K is not a heap load of money. Where do u get off saying all of my knowledge is from your previous post? Thats called a Troll dude just waiting for some one to post to bash them, my intelligence in hondas is not reflected by my post countNo what Im trying to do is save the kid from spending thousands of dollars on a car and get ripped off like 9 out of 10 shops are out to do He will be MUCH happier and save a s***load of money doing it himself.
