I've always figured that I would get a t3/t4, but something tells me that this would be over kill. It will be going on a b18c, that will eventually have 9.1 pistons and all that other stuff.

Do I honsetly need a t3/t4 or would I be fine with a t3? I plan on running some pretty high boost in the future after the internals are all done.

the t3/t4 will support higher boost levels

if you are wanting highboost then get the t3/t4 it can support a lot more boost then a t3.

The T3/T4 will flow more than a t3, but depending on how much power you are looking to make and the rpm range you are looking at using will make the decision.

If you want a more streetable car with boost lower in the rpm range than a t3 will work well enough. For a more race only type car where you never really spend much time lower in the rpm range and where you want to push more power a t3/t4 hybrid would probably be a better idea.

I would suggest the t3, as a t3/t4 is a little too big for most street driven civics.

Also, the t3/t4 won't support higher boost levels, it will just flow more air than a t3

i agree w/ most of what you said BUT i am going to disagree with you on your statement about the hybrid not being able to support more boost

Well considering honda engines are weak at low RPM it would be nice to have a little extra kick down low. But you make all your power up high... so somewhere in the middle makes the most sense to me.

How much boost can you safely run on both a t3 and a t3/t4 with all the internals done?

my friend had a t3/t4 on his b18c...just got it dyno'd

359hp AT the wheels.....12.5 quarter mile, full interior, show system and everything...not to shabby

Thats pretty sweet. How much boost is he running and hows the lag? Is the car still very streetable?

Peak power isn't everything though. The more power under the curve the better. A supercharged car can make just about as much peak power as i do, but i make more under the curve (full boost earlier) and with similiar setups i would pull on him.

the car is extremely streetable....i think he was running 329 at the wheels at 16psi....359 was at 21 psi...after that the turbo loses efficiency....but still, thats pretty hefty...you cant go wrong with a civic that has full interior, a/c, system, 17" chrome rims and is still able to SPANK a z06

and the lag isnt that bad at all...at least when i rode in it...and that was at a 15psi setting

then run a t28 and run lots of boost on it, you can run the same boost pressure BUT it will spool faster and give you more power down low and in the mid range

I wouldn't say spank. Stock Z06's are running in the 12.6-12.8 range. That's a little too close to be saying he could spank a z06.

no, i was there...he literally spanked a z06...brand new...and that was at the 15psi....i didnt believe it either....honestly the z06 is like my dream domestic car....but hey, he whooped him up something nice...left him in 3rd gear

edit* there is an EXTREMELY good chance that the old fart behind the wheel sucked at driving....but a win is a win

hmm, well upwards of 15psi is always what I had in mind, and it would be nice if the turbo was doing this without much effort... so a t3/t4 seems about right. Whatever, if Im not happy with it I can always sell it. Pretty sure i will be tho.

get a t28, you will make less peak hp but your power curve will be ALOT better

psi isnt what you need to look at, its flow. a t25 at 8 psi and a t4 at 8 psi are flowing very very different amounts of air. a t3/4 with a big trim on 9:1 pistons isnt gonna be doing s**t in first and for most of 2nd gear. then its gonna surge hard in the higher gears. its most certainly not what you want in a street car. a t3 will be a good compromise between peak power and streetablilty, but a t28 is even better street, but again, less peak power because the smaller turbine just cant flow enough air. another option woiuld be to pony up and get somethign like a garret gt series ball bearing turbo, which spool significantly quicker than the old fluid bearing t3/4.
