Best color for HIDs is 4300K, white with no blue and a tinge yellow, 100% DOT legal (as far as the bulb goes).

Just because you mod this section doesn't make you all high and mighty. I can make comments like that without batting an eye. It's the truth. PnP HIDs are garbage. Don't get butthurt because you have them. They're dangerous to the driver, and even worse, other drivers on the road. Don't pretend like I don't know what I'm talking about either. It's insulting to my intelligence, and betrays what little you may have.

how are they dangerous to the driver?

i wanted blue. 10k is the blue i wanted. i like it. i can see alot better with these then any halogen ive had. i agree that they suck in stock headlights but i dont see anyproblem with em. :what:

How can you agree they suck if you don't see any problem with them? :???:

If you're going to defend your ricer mod, at least back it up with something. They're dangerous to the driver because they put light in the wrong places, and can often cause glare off of vehicles and roadway signs, reflecting back into your eyes. Also, at the blue end of the spectrum, your eyes strain to process the light, not to mention that too far into any color, and you start to lose shape and color definition.

They're dangerous to other motorists because there's glare into their eyes, and an oncoming diver's lack of visibility is a risk to you and them.

I'm sorry if you disagree with me, that's fine. Tons of drivers are perfectly satisfied with their PnP HID kits, and 90% of the time, it's for the wrong reasons. Reasons such as "oh my grod, blue/purple/jdm yellow lights are teh sex" or "they help me see better." People who only think of their own safety on the road are the biggest hazard on the road.

i agree with Eran on the hid's thing. Its cool you went that high and all, but you should retro fit them the proper way so you dont blind people like me. I love the look of HID but couldnt afford it. So i went with a bulb from Luminics thats 5150K on the color scale. The bulb has a blue tint, but when they warm up they are pure white. I havent been flashed at all with these.
But eh, its your car man. Do with it what you will.

This is true. It's pretty simple math. light temperature (K) is inversely proportional to light output in lumins (L). Only problem is, there has to be a medium. If you dip below 4000 K, you start losing color distinction and shapes.

HOT DAMN! Thank you!

I had a guy on H-T ask me how well a 20K kit would work. I told him it'd be about as effective as putting a purple city light in.

Actually, no. Any vehicle w/ a HID setup that did not come as OEM equipment (ie: 750iL, 330xi, GS430, etc.) is illegal. However, most states/cops do not go after that...they'll pull you over and say your headlights are really bright because they are Honda profiling (believe me, I've seen it happen in NY) but your mileage may vary.

Retrofits are NOT legal, they may be more efficient, and way more productive as well as "safer" for oncoming traffic, but w/ most HID kits these days...a bit of aiming and your good to go, relatively speaking.

And actually, the H4 setup for Civics I sell have belly shields and do rather well at keeping the amount of glare down. Besides, many stock HID equipped vehicles do have a bit of a HID flare, and will glare at certain distances/angles as well.

That's why I said "as far as the bulb goes"

Using said bulb is legal in a legal HID headlamp. Using an aftermarket HID bulb in a legal housing is illegal.

In that case you are still a bit wrong, unfortunately.

Because a few cars came w/ 5300k Philips bulbs (Ultinon) but I catch your drift. I'm all about usable light, but as a salesperson, sometimes I have to give the ricers what they want...10k and 12k. I always try to guide them though, I must say.

I don't know if it was covered, but are hid's able to pass inspection in a car that it did not come factory?

There's always cars that bend the rules. The newer Lexus RS's come with clear tail lights and clear reflectors, which are technically illegal. Kind of like there are some cars that stock would break the 93db exhaust note from the factory, but they squeak by on "stock" status.

which defeats the purpose of going with HIDs, lighting up the road, but to "be safe" you have to AIM them down, lessing your view and the light that the PnP HiD kits scatter out :thumbdown that doesn't have to be done w/retrofits

even though retrofits aren't "legal" - if done right, the cops won't notice the difference at all and you won't be bothered

damn that's alot of glare, need to atleast re-aim your headlights to not blind everyone, including people looking at your pics.
