so swap is done..b18c in ej6
i wanna go turbo by next spring..so i figure i start modding my car slowly to get it ready for boost...
i am planning on getting another car soon so she won't see snow or be driven in the winter altogether..
so i guess my question and concerns are what can i do, add to get the car ready for boost...other than pieceing together or getting a turbo kit which i will be doing...
what would i need as far as getting the block ready for boost?
how and what should i use to go about building the block...etc...and what else can i do/get?
i'm planning to convert to obd1with a chipped p72 or p28 ecu..

thanks in advance.. 8)

Well, nothing too much before the actual kit goes on:

Fuel/Fuel Management:
You can do your OBD1 conv. and socket your ECU for uberdata or whatnot to run a turbo based map when you get the kit on (or whatever other fuel management you plan to run) . Which means most of your fuel upgrades (fuel pump, bigger injectors, ect...) take a hault until that happens. You could add a fuel rail and an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and just run base fuel pressure for now. I'd recommend a Paxton or Aeromotive AFPR (not the crappy B&M's that only allow you to raise FP).

Motor:
If you plan on running serious boost, you need to build (you knew that ;) ). Which in terms means dropping the compression down via low c/r pistons, a thicker HG, adding stronger rods (look into Eagle rods, good bang for the buck), maybe toss some ARP's in there, ect.... You can always buy a spare oil pan and tap that for boost so you can retain your stock one without molesting it (any B-series Vtec oilpan should work). Maybe purchase some NGK spark plugs with a colder range than stock, and other misc. maintainance items.

Tranny:
Clutch investment (I'd recommend ACT or Exedy), and a flywheel (shoot for chromoly, like an ACT or Toda). For a turbo app, I would advise against getting the "ultra lightweight" version, just a lighter than stock one.

;)

yeh rest assured when i throw the turbo on all that will be done...
i dont want to throw all the low comp shyt in there now because then the car will run shitty till i actually run boost...
so i was wonderign what else can i do?
i guess i can start buying the parts and do everything altogether..
what companies would u guys recommend for the pistons rods cams camgears and all that?
what stage clutch would u guys recommend for both act and exedy...the car would not be a daily driver at this point..but im sure i would occasionally take it for a drive...

for now i was thinking jus doing the obd conversion and putting a chipped ecu so i can have full throttle and maybe higher the rev limiter...

at what point do b18c's start losing power anyway? 6800? 7k?

they start losing power around 7800.
go with a 6 puck clutch (stage 2).
To strengthen the block, post or aluminum fill it if youre on a budget, or sleeve it.
Pistons + rods are a must, as well as a new head gasket. Aim for 9:1 compression.
Youre going to need a larger MAP sensor as well.
Then some ~550+ CC injectors.

yeah somewhere thereabouts. GSR makes peak hp at 7,6 and type-r is at 8.

For turbos, its better to not wrap out the motor... theyre already under a greater deal of stress.

MLS & Cometic makes good h.g.'s.
Pistons = wiseco, je, srp, arias, ross
rods = crower, eagle

I am getting ready to throw my tubo kit on my GSR (3 weeks) I am going to run 8 lbs on a bone stock motor. I was told that that is more than safe. But after reading this I might upgrade some things first.

that is perfectly safe. there are folks running a LOT more than 300whp on stock b18c's with zero problems.

socket a p06 or p28, p72's are a pita to work with. but if you really want, i have a great condition rare virgin obd1 p72 i'll sell ya lol. the biggest things you can do before boost is your tranny. a GOOD clutch that has a torque rating thats higher than the peak torque you think you'll ever make is a NECESSITY. if your going to be building your block, an lsd is a NECESSITY. i reccomend a quaife lsd, and a clutchmasters stage 3 kevlar/carbon clutch disc. honestly for a street car, building the block is a waste of time and money. b18c's are rediculous motors, and are strong enough (when properly tuned and without detonation) to stand about as much hp as you can legitimately make on pump gas. unless your going to be running race gas constantly, you'll never really need to have a built bottom end. that and much more than 250 whp on street tires (again, unless you run slicks all the time) is an effort in futility, you'll be spinning your wheels well into 3rd gear.

what about for a turbo D? i was thinking, Head gasket and apr hardware (studs and rod bolts) and maybe some low compression pistons...would this be good enough for me to drive the car with no worries?

well lets see, this thread is called turbo b series, i have a magnificent idea, why not make a thread entitled "turbo d series" and ask these questions?

hum....you are a genius. well being that we both had the same questions but just a different motor i dont think i should have made another thread just for someone to say yeah that is good, and that be the end of it. but i very very much thank you for the help.
