uhh, when there is oil in that turbo the movement will be FAR less.

are the fins chipped/bent? if the play was bad enouh to make housing contact they would be. a cartridge doesnt magically go bad once its pulled off a vehicle....

once that center section gets oil in it, it will most likely be fine

grrr i dont wanna get it rebuilt if i dont have to....the guy b4 me said its in good runnning shape......heres some pics of the fin's there in perfect condition......

Compressor:

Turbine:

just noticed when i hold the midle piece and spin it thats when it makes the noice....only sometimes.....it sounds like the shaftplay is moving it to hit the side of it.....but there isnt much shaft play no in and out and maybe 1/16" - 1/8" left to right play......but when i move the fins it doesnt make it.....only when i hold the middle and spin it fast....spinning slow it doesnt make a peep and its perfectly fine.....idk im just makin sure

1st hand experiece:

i had a turbo that did the same thing. it would hit the housing when i was holding it in my hand spinning it. the shaftplay was minimal and the seller said it was good to go.

i threw it on the car after doing a little research about oil affecting play, and it worked perfect! didnt smoke one bit, boosted great, and worked great even until i sold it.

from looking at it, there is no damage to the fins/housing at all. if it were mine, i wouldnt hesitate to run it

if you think its bad, throw me an offer on a price shipped to 99301. ill either run it or rebuild it for my other CRX

offer would depend on whether or not you think the turbo is still good. if you think its bad, its not worth much more than shipping costs. maybe some money for your trouble.

if you think its still good, run the thing, LOL

ok im sorry but this thread has me pissed :P

a dry turbo will have substaintially more "shaft play" then a turbo with 90psi of oil pressure running through it.

a oil spun turbo should have shaft play when dry. ryan is correct with what he says and chaos should not have any problems at all.

rebuilds are good though. kits are only about 80 bucks and turbos are bonehead simple.
