ss's run high 12's stock, add 8psi to a high 12 second car, especially when its v8 responds better to mods than a little i-4, and it gets its ass handed to it by a (probably) 1.8L.....built or not, its impressive, especially on the street

c5 corvettes don't even run 12's (except z06). ss's run mid 13's.

btw, civics keep their value pretty well too. a honda dealer just offered me $1000 over what the kbb or whatever system they use to price cars says. id say an $18,000 car selling for around $12K or morealmost 6 years later is pretty good, especially that mine isn't in perfect condition...

i don't disagree with your statement (and didn't notice that being covered, sorry), people b***h all day long about how a bolt on domestic loses to a heavily modded civic. but look at where you start from: econobox versus something built to go VERY fast. i agree with you.

nope its runss 13.6 but still if you compare the cars mod for mod, the civic would be way up there. Also v8 have bad top end, off the line the camaro would have smoked him. In a full 1/4 from a dead stop it would have been a good race
Just because motor trend, car and driver or whatever mag you got that from, has a best time of 13.6 doesn't mean the car isn't and cant be faster stock. I've been 12.8 in my buddy's completely stock z28. I remember seeing that vid on ls1tech a while back. also you have to think... I a built h22 with turbo will put out around 360 at the wheels give or take. That and given its less weight = faster car. But like said before from a light I doubt the hatch can keep up due to traction.

Who says a v-8 lacks top end? Last time I checked it makes most of its hp up high.

werd, take a econobox 1.8L and have it smoke a ferrari with a 4.3L v8 that is made to be one of the fastest car's on earth, and have the ferrari guy say "all i have is an exhaust." it's the dumbest argument i've ever heard...

see that's what i'm talking about

but i disagree on the v8 thing, v8's have long strokes so they don't rev very high. they make most of their power down low with the torque that comes with displacement, and also the stroke, which usually limits their redline to a lot lower than say a gsr or b16 can go. my friend's jeep only goes to 5500 but it has monster torque, compared to my zero torque but i have much better top end.

this applies to a normal v8 though, a ferrari or formula1 v8 is differnet because they are usually smaller so they can rev high.

True. all I as saying is that the ls1, ls6, ls2... Hell all the lsx motors make all of its horsepower up high. Given all Hell even max tq isn't realized until 4k range. Sure it may not rev as high but all its torque and power is still made high in its rpm band.

well i guess the way i look at it, if a v8 makes all of its power at the redline, and the redline is a 5500rpm, its making its power down low. because it revs low, but i get what you saying.

thats what chevy says it can do, and thats the only number i could find with anything to back it up. THere are to many factors to a 1/4 time to call that absolute, its just a good starting point. 12.8 i am having toruble beleaving that its stock. I have seen them run all day at the track here and some get close to 13.0 but almost never down into the 12s stock. I never said the civic wasnt fast, i am just saying it was an unfair match

you need to have a corvette Z06 to break into the twelves. i've never seen a stock regular c5 break 12's. there is no way an ss can bust 12's stock.

unfair does not belong in the world of racing. if the camaro would have won its unfair because it has a turbocharged v8. because the civic won its unfair because it has a lot of work done to it. if you win you win if you loose you loose

what i considfer unfair is bolt on turbo VS built turbo, and it was also racing in it the civics good area(top end) unfair does belong, thats why they have classes of cars when racing
