The friend w/ the SC Tacoma is a roots style. I never said anything about a cent. style.

Wolfy. go to www.howstuffworks.com

they give a really good explanation of a roots style blower.
Hope that helps you.

A friend at work has a SC Tacoma S-runner and it is FAST. He is running about 8lbs when the weather is nice and cold. It's good enough for daily driving and he races every now and again at the track. He is in the low 15's.
i was the one that said less maintenence.. my trd roots type (eaton m62) is self containted and requires such low maintenence.. the only thing to be concerned with is changing the gear oil in the nose drive... but even that does not have to be changed until every 50-60K. low 15's? get it right! im at 14.757 and it will be lower dont worry... just remember that my truck weighs about 3550 so its alot more weight to push.. but all this pro and con talk.. my s/c holds plenty of power up to redline.. 2nite i actually got 9lbs in 3rd at about 5,000.. when trd claims its only 7lbs... :D but i agree that turbo can def get more power for the buck... but u might also have to do internals to handle boost.. at least if u wanna up it.. i think 6-8 lbs on a stock motor should be fine.. just gotta watch egt's and fuel delivery

I'm still confused as to why a turbo requires extra maintenance. What extra does it need?

So the roots blower is self contained, but you have to change out the gear oil every once in a while, i on the other hand just had to tap the oil pan and run 2 oil lines (1 feed, 1 return), and my turbo gets fed with fresh oil constantly, and i just change oil at regular intervals.

the only custom work is dp. i mean you can go anal and get a custom manifold. i wouldnt say that its extra maintainence but...more meticulous.

Supercharger.... power thought out the powerband. get the same boost down low ad you would runnin 7 grand. you'll only get 6 to 7 pounds of boost out of one, but its consitant and great for a daily driver. the turbo will no doubt get you more power. but then again its alot more. so i guess you get what you pay for.

I have the TD04H-15G Greddy turbo kit and intercooler kit on my 2000 EX. I love it. But it is not as easy as just slappin it on there. The SOHC 1.6L engine that is NA is not the perfect easy money way to boost. Tiny Fuel pressure regulator, small injectors, small fuel pump, one camshaft, etc. All of the fuel upgrades need to be delt with. Running too much fuel (Rich) is ok, uses up more gas but saves the engine and turbo. Running to little fuel (Lean) is when the chamber will explode and damage valves, etc. Highly recomend having it dyno tuned. I would not trade my turbo for anything, but you do have to keep up with it, it heats up more and there are more parts that can break, but it is so much fun to drive. I am a daily driver and not yet have put it to the track. I did research for a year while i was saving up for everything. DO NOT RUSH OR YOU WILL DIE!!! Take the extra time to ask questions. He who asks a question is a fool for five minutes; he who does not ask a question remains a fool forever. I bought my turbo kit for $1400 from www.city-speed.com. Any other questions you can IM me, hopes this helps a little.
