I wanted that truck as well Ed, actually I still do. Id rather have this though, Top Gear's HILUX when they went to the North Pole:

I'm still quite a ways from finishing I'm sure, but ya. As for colors, I have been throwing a bit of schemes around...TUCKING EVERYTHING... HELL YEAH! I'm anxious for you to finish, since my builds basically done this is all I've got to look forward to! You should paint it white.. to match my car

I got in my power window locks from an rx7, so I get to figure out how to make those work lol.
Looking for window switches for my rx7 door panels...
Been searching for shift knobs and steering wheels.

not much updates guys...
been working like crazy. i am currently working nine weeks straight before my next week off.
but i did pick uop a few things, and am trying to get ahold of the guy to give me all my parts back for the turbo mani since hes obviously f***ing me around. ive waited as long as i can on his ass...
anywho, heres some pics..
i picked up this complete back half for super cheap!
cnotch, 4 link, air tank, valves, axle, shocks, train horns and all that will be used to bag the other mazda that i still havent had time to get running haha. i also got all the s*** to bag the front, so i just need a weekend to work on it. prolly wont tackle this til after the big show im going to in arkansas in september since i need to get the other truck presentable and ready to go on a trailer for that...
greasy finger prints all over my new power window switches to fill the holes in my rx7 door panels... i now have a full interior in good working condition. just need time to get it all put together..
crudely cut out rear cab wall...
this will never be seen, but i couldnt not do this mod. smooth back cab wall dropped into place...
lined up, and needing some trimming from the factory cab wall... but now that im to this point i got a really stellar idea...
so lemme know what u guys think of this-- i want to do a power rear cab window like on the old blazers and the new tundras.
im still looking into the best way to do this, and am gonna go junkyard searching for a motor and all the necesary stuff to do this. i think i can use the track from a 4runner then i will just have to come up with mounting and running molding to seal it and all that junk.
its just an idea im throwing around right now, but i think it would be badass and totally set the truck off...
im hoping to have some time here and there to work on the truck since im running out of time on it before this show and i want a complete interior minus carpet and a full lifting steering truck. obviously it isnt going to run, but i want it to be easier to get on and off of the trailer than it was at the last show...

so, i picked this up a week ago. was driving by one of the local salvage yards and just had this feeling come over me that i needed to stop in and see if they had what i needed. so i stopped, and asked the guy at the front if they had any 4runner rear hatches with glass with the power rear window in which he says, "what year?"
i said, well im not completely sure. mid nineties i think. he says, well what year is urs? and i said i dont have one. im not using it on a toyota lol. he didnt quite understand what i was saying, so i explained it was going on a mazda b series pickup in which he replied Hmmm. and that was that.
so he sent me outback to a ragged 4runner. no rear glass, motor was rusted out, so i went walking back inside. as i was walking back inside i noticed a white glimmer out of the corner of my eye. it was a 1997 4runner, and from looking at it from a distance, i couldnt figure out why it was in the scrapyard.
so i walk over to it, and see a perfect rear window/back hatch with all plastic and wiring and what looks to be a brand new window motor/regulator and tracks. it even has all of the mouldings for the window.
so i write the number of the vehicle on my hand and go back inside. i give the guy the number and he tells me $150. i say no way. will u take 125? and he says no $150+tax, so $161. so i sit there for a sec and think that all the parts have got to be worth that and the window alone is prolly worth it since its heated and tinted, so i go ahead and buy it. i hand the guy my credit card and he swipes it, i sign my receipt and load my hatch and leave.
now some of u might be upset about this next part, and i still dunno how i feel about it, but once i got home i checked my receipt...
$16.18 it says. hmmm, looks like someone missed a number when they typed it in the credit card machine. normally i would go back and tell them about their mistake, but i think im just gonna take the bad karma on this one lol(dont judge me, im really not a bad person).
so now im home and itching to cut up my newly acquired project for my already over the top mazda lol...
so out comes the measuring tape and after about an hour of measuring and making sure i didnt waste $16, out comes the grinder and cutoff wheels...
al the guts in good shape..
the fun begins...
so basically, all of the measurement of the window are dead on, so im going to use the toyota window and all. the only big difference is the yota window is taller than the mazda, but its the same measurements as the other windows, so it will go all the way to the top of the bed instead of having a 2 inch gap like the factory mazda window.
so i am working on getting everything seperated so i can get it traced onto the mazda and get the mazda rear cut out and everything tacked into place. then i will wire up the window and see if it works and thats basically all there is to that project!

Damn, you sure got one hell of a deal.. lol $16. I would do the same as you and just enjoy the fact that the guy messed up and you got one hell of a bargain! Can't wait to see you get some more major updates, that read window with motor is going to be awesome!

Ya they're great trucks, even when they don't run and never leave ur garage and u could've bought a couple rx7s by now lol..
Well since I don't have power windows, I might use the power window switches from the rx7 that r in the door panels or maybe use the power mirror switches that are in the rx7 center console!
Either way it will be totally custom while using existing stock equipment.
It'll be like it came from the factory that way!
Well, I'm supposed to be off next week, so hopefully get some shît done.
I've got a lot to do and I'm running out of time!
