Just wanted to get some thoughts and info on what kind of block and head prep work i need to do before the turbo install. Also some opinions on what turbo kit would be best for my daily driver. Thanks in advance.
for a daily driver, you can just use the stock head/block=no building the motor needed
when i had my d-series i put on a little td05 turbo /hf manifold kit i pieced together, power and daily driving
Ok i know i'm new here but i'm a big d series fan. The first thing i would recommend on your y8 is to port the oil pump or buy a high flow one, you should do this whether you go turbo or not IMHO.
But if you're just wanting a lil more pep in your DD then ya a junkyard kit can do ya good. like the guy before me said a hf mani is great for a cheap turbo build. you can find a turbo there or even on ebay, craigslist whatever. intercooler an piping off ebay.
JUST MAKE SURE YOU TUNE IT!!!!! don't go for a fmu or s**t like that even if you
research it and do a street tune yourself. it needs to be tuned. That's about all i can think
of at the moment if ya have any specific questions send me a pm or a message on here.
if its a d16y8 your going to want to SHIM your oil pump pickup, not so much as port it.
250whp is hard to achieve with a stock d16, its either under 250 with a stock bottom end
or or over 250 with a built bottom end.. theres not too much of a median.
if you want to get 250 ++ whp with a D series, your going to have to build the engine. if you want to keep the engine stock and have a safe tune, you'll be looking around 190-210 whp. if you want more power, either swap out your engine or build your d.
ya 250 will be pushin stock rods an pistons. theres a company that sells these Vitara pistons and some rods they are very reasonably priced and great people to deal with. http://fjdistributors.com/privacy.php
Give them a look. those pistons are good for 400whp and that block can run bout 350.
hf, or cx mani meaning EXHAUST manifold.. because the way they're styled, you can weld a turbo flange onto them. check out homemadeturbo.com for more ideas.
-YCP Vitara pistons (75mm / 75.5mm / 76mm)
-Wrist pins and C clips
-Piston rings (Hastings or NPR)
-Timing Belt
-Water Pump
-ACL Rod Bearings
-ACL Main Bearings
-ACL or King Thrust washers
-Full engine Gasket & Seals set--> Its all the gaskets and seals you will need for your engine from the oil pan and up to the head.Metal 3 layer Head gasket (approx .030 thickness)
for 340 that is hella cheap on a d16y7 motor
but what is the compression on the piston?? it doesn't say
Idc what nebody says. go ahead and notch ur block for any rods. it won't cost more than 30 bucks at a shop(at least that what it cost me) but i found online somewhere, i'll look it up, a DIY on block notching. all you need is a dremel tool and a measuring tool.
