Updating my carPC

well i dont see a point in being able to start my car via the internet lol i can hook it up to the car computer and it will give me readouts on everything like MPG next oil change all that cool stuff... i will soon have a front and rear mount camera which will be cool when driving to record and such......getting it all flush took forever....lots of sanding and time and patience.....all in all it cost me about 600 i think

i plan to make a go at it, but I've been waiting for some old 1st gen p-4 laptops to hit the surplus table at work for cheap. I'm pretty sure one of them I should get free or almost free that has a busted lcd screen and messed up AC adaptor port, but everything else is in working condition.

and pci is useless i have never used it everything i have is USB based from my WIFI to my GPS and keybaord if i need it....never need a cd rom either so it allows for a compact design that uses almost no power..

and yea i drive around all the time and just hop on peoples WIFI lol check the email i can also connect it through my phone and get on the internet too if i ever wanted too

yea, i uses the pci slot for my 512mb geforce graphic card

my bad my bad 600bucks for all of that what are the chances of you make this and selling it for about 1000 am sure some people would love to have this set up i know i willl

nope dont like roadrunner its a ram hog this is called frodoplayer which i know how to program so i can tailor it to suit my needs =)

What kind of monitor did you use? and is it VGA?

its a lilliput 7" touchscreen and i can use either VGA or composite on the screen

man i wish i had the skill to assemble all that.....and the money.....and the skill to mount it in the dash

Ok i cant stop thinking about this thing...and i have a few questions. How would you have done this if you had a 96-98? and then also, was the COMPUTER itself $600 or is that for everything?
cuz i'd love to have something like this in my car, but i wouldnt want to be limited to keeping it in my civic if i get rid of it in 2 years.

would that GUI be usable on say a flip out DVD receiver? since i have a 98 i dont think i could do a custom fab job like that

never actually looked to see how one would be set up in a 96-98 but all is possible wit hte right fabricating and work put into it. and yes 600 is for everything and you can build one cheaper than that almost by half but i always have to have the fastest lol...and i doubt the program i have would run on a DVD player.

well finally got around to doing a little more work on it redid the screen bezel my friend hit and craked it so now tats all fixed lol...also got around to mounting the hard drive which was complicated not much room left so i just mounted it above the motherboard....so hopefully within a few days it will be up and running again...

the final setup of the inside just run some power wires and its good 2 go

i have sata hookups on the motherboard but i have a 320 gb hdd that is ide and on a carpc its nominal since it really doesnt need it but thanks
