Vtec mini me problem HEELLP!

Alright guys here is my problem, I have a d15b block with a d16 head and it is wired for vtec, Here is my problem every once in awhile my check engine light will come on and the car will start running like complete crap then, A few days later on the cel will disappear and my car will run fine, When it isn't running good it only goes up to 4000 rpm and does not go further then that? could this be my vtec solenoid? i would get the cel code checked but due to the fact where i live no one carries a obd1 cel reader and i don't have the extra money to buy one right now if you guys know what this could be please help... kinda sounds lik the same thing that happened to me not so long ago wat code is throwing cuz on mine it was the an obd2 ecu and my code was 14 meaning the ecu is malfunctioning....borrow a one of ur buddys ecu and run it to see if ur car goes back to normal if it does den its ur ecu...dare is a way to check wat code its throwing look at ur ecu and dare should b a green connector with 2 entries connect one wire cable to each side and flip ur ingnition and ur check engine light should begin to bliknk one long blink means one and 4 short blinks means 4 i used my problem for an example...find out how many times ur check engine light blinks and ull find out wats wrong with ur car....
