water in oil, new head gasket

Gentlemen:, I would like to ask your opinions,

99' D16Y7 (135k), stock, or was until I replaced the Head Gasket.followed
the torque specs and patterns, I used to work for Hyster Lift trucks.
Had it surfaced ,pressure checked, valves, seals etc. by a good shop.
Turned it loose to my wife to drive, 118 miles later I checked the oil tonight
and none showing on the stick, opened the drain plug, none comes out.Have not done
a compression test yet,(lent it to my friend) but the plugs look great.

Looked at the filler cap and down in at the cam, and it's brown sludge.
The car has not over heated, does not blow out white smoke. But I know it's classic
head gasket stuff. Except I have never seen brown oil sludge, and it has never disappeared.
I have seen Lots of mayonnaise colored oil, and the level does usually go up.

I guess what I am asking is has anybody else seen this? Where did the oil go?
Did it just emulsify and turn into sludge hanging on the engines components?
and what are your thoughts on using copper coat on a felpro steel shim gasket.
Oh and last but not least, deck tolerances on the block, Warpage.
When I tear this apart again I need to know what went wrong.
Thanks in advance, I know it's late and I may not be able to reply tonight,
:???:

I kinda had a problem when I reinstalled my head after doing a gasket. I forgot the put the dowel pins back in.... Did you remember to put the dowel pins?

did you look at the block? cylinder walls have any cracks? the top of the sleeves look okay?

I originally tore into it because the top rad hose broke and my daughter drove it to "steam".
long story short, compression was low on #2 and water was in the cylinder(rust on spark plug). It also over heated and used water, Lost to that cylinder.
I had assumed "head gasket" or possibly cracked head. I did check the block deck, and had .003 to .004"
of clearance, cylinder wall to block. I looked and called several places to get an allowable number. No one would commit to OK or not. I dread the thought of having the block decked.

To answer your question, No I did not check for cracks. It had no ridge and the walls looked very good
considering this car sat for two years before we had the opportunity to repair it. I started it about once a month and drained the water.
I am still waiting for my compression tester to be brought back.

What is puzzling to me is it does not over heat or blow back in the radiator, or smoke water
Are there any other places where water can get in the oil??
Throttle body water jacket ??
Water pump?

Thanks for the Brain Power,

Found the problem

Felt like my responsibility to post what I found,
Compression check great 180-180-185-180 dry

Ran some 10wt oil and new filter for about 15min and engine
up to temp.and coolant under pressure. Drained out
some nasty looking sludge, but no water,
Repeated the same thing again, and now without the sludge.
Once again but with 10/30, drove it, no problems.

The best I can figure out without an oil analysis, is before I tore this
down we tried bars leaks stop leak. It did not work of course and the car sat
for almost two years before I got to the head gasket.
I guess, even though I drained the old oil and replaced the filter there must
have been some of that coagulant in the pan, and it mixed with the oil to
form that sludge, that actually was thick enough to keep the oil suspended
and plugged the drain.
Well there it is---------- Happy ending:
I would like to thank Those that gave it A shot, It was a new one in my book

Thanks for posting back with the findings. So often people don't. They get it running and that's the end of it. Then when people search, they get a bunch of incomplete details. Good on ya :thumbs up

yea, that could have been exactly it. i always flush the cooling system and make sure to clean the oil pan when i do headgasket jobs... contaminated oil always finds places to hide.
