I 10000% feel your pain. I've done a lot of help desk the last couple years, some people just need to stay away from computers. Last year I had to call Dell to service a laptop here, because the user spilled oil on the back cover of the LCD screen (he works as a service tech out in oilfields so it's not too uncommon). Rather than wiping the oil off, he power washed it.......Pulling my god damn hair because people dont have the minimum required skills to work behind thier computers. Then when you give them step by step instructions on how to fix the problem they go about it their own way and complain that s**t isnt working.
FOLLOW THE f**king DIRECTIONS!
We need to stop hiring these morons. I sent a online testing site for new employees to our HR director who is ecstatic with it. She completely agrees with me. I waste so much time with people giving them basic instructions on functions that dont require any mental capacity.
Well for me I'm not help desk, but I am responsible for the companies user needs. I am the IT admin for a medical practice with 120+ employees, 98% are women to boot. We have 17 offices all over two different states, so I'm pretty busy.I 10000% feel your pain. I've done a lot of help desk the last couple years, some people just need to stay away from computers. Are you serious?!? Did he think it was waterproof?... Rather than wiping the oil off, he power washed it.......
I'm actually a sys admin but the 4 of us in the US-IT dept. all share help desk duties, including my manager. I probably do the most though, since I'm at the bottom of the totem pole (two guys here for 13 years, my boss for 5, me about 3.5 straight out of college). We deal with 16 offices throughout N/S America though, which is awesome because I get to travel. Our HQ is in England, where their IT team supports the rest of the world (we have offices in 113 countries I think??).. Dyson worked in one of our offices before he went off and formed Dyson hahaWell for me I'm not help desk, but I am responsible for the companies user needs. He's not the brightest bulb in the ceiling lolAre you serious?!? Did he think it was waterproof?
I enjoy what I do, though I've about hit my cap where I am. Not much room for growth, and, the company is largely based on oil and gas, so with those prices going down, the company suffers as well. We still had a strong 2015 but no annual bonus (15%!!) which for the first time in 12 years or some s**t isn't going to happen. So I believe it's about time for me to step it up too!Your corporate world stories remind me how much Im glad to be out of that culture. Its just about 8 years to the day, actually. The medical field certainly has its crap but at lest I enjoy what I do. That is when Im working, of which Im not right now. That should change soon.
I have not, but I haven't really started looking just yet. I had an interview with Symantec in DC, which went well, but they said I'd be a better fit for a job in Seattle. I've been to Seattle before, and it was nice, but I don't want to move that far west just yet.@XpL0d3r have you looked into applying for Oracle? They are always hiring and they are all over the world. I am planning to apply to their Shanghai division as soon as my mandarin is fluent enough.
He did? I don't remember that.I thought about applying for a position at Honda in OH a while back but didn't really want to live there. I believe sk8shrty08 or something like that (black EM1 with lots of OEM+ goodies from CC) moved from SoCal to OH a little while back...
