Salmonella and food poisoning aren't really problems? You can kill people with cross contamination from raw chicken..
you didn't say salmonella and food poisoning. you said handling chicken then making a salad.
wat

I handle raw meats almost on a daily basis. Knowing what I know now, I would've never thought of had I chose to not work here. Even things like chicken guts ......, I notice it so much more often.
all the things u listed seem like obvious things anyone would know.

i hate when that happens too, i usually use a bottle with a cap, but i didnt have one today
Worse, I did have a bottle with a cap. Just happened to hit it with the cap off.

Once you see someone drink their spitty on accident, you will have a better chance of being mauled by a grizzly bear and a polar bear in the same day than doing it. It's like getting vaccinated against doing it to yourself.

Surprisingly, a lot of people don't know this. Especially when we get part-timers that come in and work. They do things that just make you go wtf? It seems like it would be common sense but most people don't pay attention to this stuff. They just expect to come in, get their food, leave, and eat it.

I got food poisoning for the first time in my life like a month ago and had I not been already working in the food business and known what I known, I would've never thought of the possibilities of why I got sick.

you can't see food poisoning in advance even with all the paranoid thoughts of where it can come from.

what is the code for washing hands at your business? since you just learned so much about it i'm curious about one thing in particular.

I don't know of a "code". Pretty much very frequently lol. Depends what you're doing. What are you curious about?

Where I'm at you've got to wash your hands in order.

-dispense paper towels
-turn on hot water
-wash hands thoroughly
-dry hands with paper towels
-turn water off with same paper towel making sure your hands don't touch the knob.

That's it.

Ah, we have a wall mounted soap dispenser beside the sink. Antibacterial soap of course. We do not keep a fingernail brush but it's expected of the employees and as a manager I keep an eye out for hygiene and make sure everyone's up to standards.

Was it on purpose, or an accident? I had a dude PISS in a beer bottle outside that was next to mine once. Why would you piss in a beer bottle? I got hesh with him, because he thought it was funny. People who owned the house made him leave, then things got all awkward haha.

On purpose. He did it when I wasn't paying attention and thought it was funny. I hit him across the head with the beer bottle.

Oh those were the days...

fun facts about antibacterial soap.
  • The antibacterial components of soaps (usually triclosan or, less commonly, triclocarbon) need to be left on a surface for about two minutes in order to work. Most people are not this patient, and end up washing off the soap before the antibacterial ingredients can do their job.
  • Some scientists theorize that bacteria may develop a resistance to bactericidal agents over time
  • Some bacteria actually benefit us. The normal population of bacteria on our bodies not only eats our sweat, but also helps defend us against truly harmful, invasive bacteria.
  • Many common diseases are viral in nature, anyway, and are therefore not prevented by antibacterial products.
so you might as well use normal soap if it saves on costs

I'll have to look into that. My boss is always looking to cut costs. Even in place he shouldn't :(

Ohh I thought you meant like when/how often to wash your hands lol.

ALL of our hand washing sinks are automated throughout the entire store in every store. The only sinks with handles are production sinks. I'm pretty sure the safe mark guidelines say to wash your hands for at least 30 seconds but our company says at least 20. And we're supposed to wash our forearms too.
