Mine just did the same thing it said that compnents in the new itunes were not compatiable with windows xp and couldnt be installed so itunes couldnt run correctly i tried to redownload it did the same thing. I gues either they fixed it or i just got lucky had to compltly unistall itunes and then reinstall it on my computer and it works but all my music is backed up on a non connected external harddrive so its always safe.
