you're gonna have a hard time finding one of the better (imo) older alpines. the 7800 / 7900 series alpines were nice. the new 9800 series suck. i have a 9831 in my lude and a 9853 in my civ. i am not pleased with either. i only bought them because i was so happy with my older 7800's. controls suck. the glide touch is pretty useless. i would def go with the pioneer - much more adjustability. i am/was a die hard alpine. both of my car rock alpine components. my civ has type s subs - which are great subs for a hatch and for the money. i would think twice about gettin the rest of your system for $400. you get what you pay for. if you're looking for inexpensive but decent product, look at directed's extreme line. wutever subs you get, make sure you have a good box... it will make all the difference.

Besides a world of people who seem to hate the glide touch ( a feature I think is kinda cool )

the Alpine is a far better unit.
I have heard all sorts of complaints on this unit.
All I get is pre set eq curves where are my bass mid and treble this deck sucks. Uh have you visited alpines I-Personalize page and set up your eq the way you want it and burn it via cd to your deck?

The alpine rocks and it is 100 times the sq than the pioneer.
I have yet to see a face get stuck on the motor. I have seen one that wouldnt detach :???: had to pry it off with a screwdriver.

I think the alpine unit is the way to go. If the online features dont agree with you do the 9847 or the non glide touch swing face

You say that the older alpines are good, but i cant find them any where... their all like not made and i cant find them on ebay unless used... which i dont feel comfortable buying? So the older models arent really helping me?

the best thing for you to do is physically go and check out each HU. You
ask for everyones opinions, but all that matters is your opinion and preference. So go check them out and mess around with them.....

yea i dont have a dvd/cd player, i have a seperate dvd player thats mounted under the driver seat, hell i got it all cheap thas why i really don't care, i'm worried more about the performance than the bells and whisles, although i do want to pick up the pioneer navi or the alpine one

bells and whisles>me =)

i'm slowly saving up to boost my car which I would like to have by next summer, going to be honest with you, performance is good but I dont go around racing people or to the track so to me its not something that I must have at this moment :what:
I wish I could get that pioneer monitor with the navi ( click here ) , I dont want the flip up cuz it will block my air vents

i saw the CDA-9855 yesterday, and the glidetouch wasnt as weird as i thought it was... basically there all buttons just with a white thing covering them?. I think i'm just going to go all alpine and make my life simple. Type R's all around for speakers (comps in front, 6x9 in back, and 2 10") and then two amps, one 4 chan and one 2 channel( for the subs ). For the two alpine Type r 10" 4-ohm what alpine amp do i look for? Same for the 4 channel what model from alpine will be my best bet. I dotn know amps. Thanks.

just look for one that is (RMS of your subs)X2 @X Ohms.

example: your subs are 500 watts RMS so look for an amp that is 500w RMSx2 at 4 ohms

it doesnt really matter the company of the amp you get, i would just worry about finding one that is the exact wattage you need.

i totally agree with civster. go to best buy or some electronics store and play with the different head units. i have the alpine 9853 and im pritty happy with it. the glide touch is really cool and not that hard to use at all. From what i've heard, you either like or dont like the glide touch, its mostly on opinion. i havent run into any problems w/ the headunit yet, and i would highly recommend it if you're an alpine fan and willing to spend the money. The EQs are really awesome and i personally like the styling over pioneer any day. thats just my opinion, you should go to a store and play arround with different decks. Thats what i did, then shopped arround for the right deal on my head unit.
