Go to rockford's site and look up box specifications. They will tell you the recommended cubic footage for the application.

oh, I didn't even see you were thinking about the alpine... Yeah, go with the alpine. Check out their site for specs on box size.

IMO my single 10" is plenty for a civic. Good luck on your audio.

a sealed box will give you a tighter sounds but will require more power to get equal volumn to a ported box. I've always used ported boxs with my home equipment and have no complaints, so go with the open.

Sealed enclosure is easier to tune.

But both designs are effective and Q-logic offers a decent product even if they tend to be overpriced

I have a ported box and my gf has a sealed one. I'm starting to like the sealed version better.

why is that?
My guess is that a second order is more forgiving of design flaws and easier to tune. A sealed box is easier.

Soundwaves through an open room and soundwaves through a sealed trunk=apples:oranges.
And it really depends on what music you listen to.Yes the sealed box creates "tighter" sounds, and ported will be louder but not as crisp. Sealed would be ideal for rock, jazz, etc(Where mid-high frequencies are desired). A ported box will produce louder bass, but will not be as crisp. This is good for rap or techno, because the bass/beat is the mmost desired aspect of most tracks.

Also, like 'that VERBAL' said, make sure you check the air space requirments and get a box according to those specs. Most dont need more than 1 1/4

.... I'd get the Type R, first of all.

And two, not that Q Logics are bad prefabs... but why in the blue f**king hell would you pay 120 dollars for a box when you can build one yourself for 30 bucks?!?! And then all you have to do is carpet it. Then you can build whichever you decide (I would go ported, personally, with a single 12, but it's all up to you. :D ) & carpet it how you'd like.

Ported can sound clean, too, but it has to be tuned correctly and not just.. boom, here ya go, it's a box. In that case, you're not running the woofer the way it was intended to be used. My system is sealed, but I don't have enough room for a ported box with my setup... but I'd love to do ported. With a Type R it would still be clean, and it would just resonate a bit more... but it depends on the sound you like. I think resonation always sound better than pop pop pop anyway. heh.

Anyways, my point is that you could even have a stereo shop just build and carpet a box (if you don't want to DIY) and it would still be either the same price or cheaper than getting a prefab.... plus, it would meet the air space requirements... so it would also sound better. =)

I didn't know Q-logic boxes were expensive. I got mine pretty much free brand new.

That's what I'm saying. The design and construction of the Q-Logic enclosures is pretty sound but given all the costs for labor, materials, overhead, shipping, storage, R&D, marketing...etc... they are probably producing each unit for about $30.00. (probably less) By the time they make it to retail they are seeing a 400% mark up  .

I wish I'd gotten in on the ground floor for that!

a single 10 is more than enough for a civic, as for boxes, go sealed. look for a quailty box with a volume within the subs specs, they all usually have size recomendations, SubZone and QLogic make nice boxes for the $$. DO NOT SKIMP ON THE BOX!

.. boxes made for the woofer you're getting are better than a prefab. They're built for that woofer and that woofer alone and that's the way it should be done... IMHO.

You guys crack me up... dudes gonna get what he wants, whether it be 15s (oh, the soft spot of my heart) or a single 10...which is so not enough bass! hehehehe.
