Just wanted to introduce myself to the club civic memebrs, im new to the civics always around em never had one, got to start off with a 1998 ex coupe manual trans. not bad for a used car im planning on doing a couple of mods to it and would like some help on somethings that you guys probably have had more experience on. here are a couple of pics of it not much done to it its stock i know the last owner put an exhaust and intake on it, other then that my only hook ups have been new belts for now, and a shift boot and knob, working on the engine is something i want to do but for now im moving slow want to know what would be best to start off on.

Header.... your not looking at much power with a d16y8 or any d series without forced induction or a ton of money on building a n/a motor. You can do the normal and get a b16 or b18. You do have choice of b20 for some torque. Your final options are k20 and k24 more money more power

Yeah my cuzin was telling me to put a k20 in it and one of my friends was telling me to swamp it for gsr engine. I dont knowmmuch about em. Thanks for thr advice i think ill start off simple and not go all the way and spend a s**t load of money on it.

I have the same car but in red. Best thing for you to do is just research. I did for 9 months before finally getting a 5 speed. So glade I did, there are tons of things you can do to a civic. Just follow people's builds and you will get an idea for what you like. YouTube helps a lot as well. There are tons of videos of civics and people's builds. Also hop on k20a or Honda tech if u want to see some great builds and get tech info, the guys in those sites know there ish. Oh yea and welcome =)

Best advice is a complete tune-up so you can mark down your own service intervals.
Grab a haynes manual, it'll help a ton.

For minor mods under $100 each; here's a few
PWJDM shift knob (came with my Civic when I bought it and would be the only PWJDM product I would've purchased anyways) I've tried a few other manual cars, and prefer the shifting of my Civic with the integra-shifter + PWJDM knob

I'd get the Stainless Steel one though, as it'd look much cleaner and is in between the 420g-530g weights

an Integra Dual-bend shifter is a great addition to Civics; it beats the stock shifter by about 30% of an improvement in throws.

Get VTEC. Make sure you have a full exhaust anf not just a tip on it. Get a motor with more power lol. Do the general maintenance and beat the s**t out of it. Its a d series. So why not? Lol

If the car has the original motor, it has VTEC. But SOHC VTEC only engages on the intake side, which is why you can hear the crossover with an aftermarket intake but not through the exhaust. It's wack. Either go forced induction or swap if you're looking for power. Otherwise, check out build threads and members rides to see what other people have done.
