hey guys so the setup i bought from highwaystar here has a huge f**king intercooler and i dont want to remove my crash bar for it. with this being said. i am looking for another intercooler that will fit with the piping that came with it. highway star has a 31x6x3 that he can trade me but i am thinking this is too small. i am looking for something that will fill up my bumper opening and fit with the current piping.

the big intercooler that came with the piping is 31x12x3 so i assume any 31x?x? IC will fit with this piping correct?

whats the biigest IC i can get while still keeping my front crash bar. My car is going into the shop on May 10th and i need to get it by then. I am looking for something used to buy or trade for what i have now. If i find nothing ill trade with highwaystar its just that 6in tall seems kinda small to me plus rectangles arent as efficient as more squared ones.

thanks for the help.

The 6 inch he has should be good for about 400whp. I have one just about that size, I think mine is an inch or 2 longer and it has made over 400whp and kept things cool.

If you need more, I have a large GReddy Intercooler for sale 29x11x2 3/4 inches. Just fit behind the bumper bar in my civic and should be good for up to around 600whp.

too big of an intercooler will create boost loss.

you need to have a horsepower goal to determine which size ic you should be using. there is such thing as having an ic that is too big. on lower boost setups it creates excess turbo lag b/c of the large volume that has to be filled up

if you just want something to fill up the grill opening, 28x6x3 fits nicely IMO

my goal is 300. right now i am only boosting on 8psi so ill be runing at or a little above 200. eventually ill rebuild with forged internals but thats later. i really want something efficient but as stupid at it sounds i want something to cover up the entire opening of my 2000 bumper for the sake of looks.

looks like mugenkids is 28x6x3 and i could trade with highwaystar for a 31x6x3...i guess ill do that. any suggestions beforehand though.

edit: yeah i know big ICs arent efficient for small turbos and i am only running a garrett t28...but thats what came with his kit. looks like ill be trading it anyways. black IC's ftmfw

replied to your PM

im running about 310-320hp on 7.25psi and my little IC is doing just fine. 31x12 is definitely overkill. 31x6 would probably work just fine, but like i said, with end-tanks mine is about 28x6x3 and fills the grill gap just fine IMO

*edit*
i just blacked mine out with flat black plasti-kote engine enamel and it looks 100% better now

Sorry to thread jack Antonio, but anybody have a size that's small enough to keep fogs in a 96-98?

Its called a bumper support, and most of the huge front mounts you see usually requires cutting or removing the support.

yeah this has already been established hence the reason for my thread.

you would be surprised how you dont actually need a gargantuan sized intercooler. our 24x6x3" garrett core intercooler can handle 475+whp and fit under the factory bumper support, so you should have no problem fitting a 300hp intercooler under the bumper support.

Astheros, you do not need a huge intercooler for your boosted d. The 6 in tall IC will be better for your setup. You will not see as much boost lag as you would with the unneccesarily large FMIC... not too mention less of a pressure drop. Ask Highwaystar, he will tell you the same

Would it be retarded to use the top mount intercooler from a WRX or even an STi?

I've got a 22x7.5x3.5 FMIC from Treadstone Performance and I still had to cut out part of my front bumper support for it to fit. All in all it fits nicely in the opening of my front bumper and looks pretty good!
