See, I see it the opposite. I'd rather not have crappy bass. Most of the time when I hear a car with subs... it sounds bad. So sounds bad + heavy = double no. Since just with Eran in the car I can feel the car accelerates slower, I can imagine I get worse gas mileage too, and I'd rather get good gas mileage. Some upgraded speakers are fine for me.
Sub-bass is just a part of the full spectrum of sounds that your stereo should duplicate.
To me, music sounds incomplete without it. Treble without a cause.
But most people that have subs have too much. BOOM BOOM BOOM! all the time. No real discernible highs. Muddy, nasty mids. Body panels rattle so much that it sounds like some midgets are in the trunk hitting metal trash cans full of aluminum cans with baseball bats.....
For some reason they typically have big chrome rims too.
I haven't really figured out why bad taste in rims goes hand in hand with an inability to hear how bad one's stereo sounds.
