Because you are just becoming part of the problem and not the solution. The old cliche goes, "Don't fight fire with fire." Guns are not the answer to burglary issues.
do you suggest the average citizen fight an armed burgular with his hands? or maybe just reason with him? or maybe call the police and wait 5-10 minutes to get there? i would love to here your suggesting for your average citizen in protecting themselves against an armed citizen.. say my home alone 40 year old stepmom... armed burgular breaks in.. INSTEAD of shooting him she should do what?

I think the reason why you are acting like everyone needs guns is because you are looking at life from the bottom of the barrel. If you live in a bad neighborhood move, organize a neighborhood watch, make sure you know your neighbors and have them keep an eye on the house. Get an alarm, a Giant Schauzer, a Pit Bull. etc etc etc The world is not as bad as you portray it to be.

Actually, the world is every bit as bad as he portrays it to be. It's not always a matter of "Duh, just move somewhere nicer". s**t happens dude, you are NEVER 100% safe. If an armed burglar(or just anyone intent on harming you in general for that matter) breaks into your house and you've got a Pit Bull, what exactly do you think he's gonna do, run away in fear? He can shoot that dog just as easily as he can shoot you.

I'm glad you feel confident enough to never use them, really that's great. But why talk down on those that feel they do? Hell, I'm formally trained in martial arts too, and am very confident in my ability to handle myself. And I still own a firearm. Why? Because I'll be damned if I'm going to risk myself and my loved ones' lives on the assumption that my fist will be faster than someone's bullet.

i'm telling you it is tho.

come live in reading, pa.

your logic is still flawed. whether or not we're looking at life from the bottom of the barrel, there are still thousands of people living in that exact kind of danger/situation. sometimes people are just in shitty situations because either they've made bad choices or have been dealt a crappy hand.

they shouldn't be denied the right to protect themselves.

u seem to be saying that they should just suck it up and deal with being robbed/raped/murdered and not do anything to protect themselves.

that's like saying, well people in the army shouldn't use guns because they're bad. they're in a dangerous situation that necessitates the possession and use of firearms. They are in danger of attack from hostile individuals that possess firearms as well. They use guns to level the playing field shared by them and the suicidal maniacs roaming the middle east. Cops deal with the same stuff and the government issues them guns as well.

All OC and I are saying, is that people deserve the right to level the playing field. They should be able to protect themselves in the event that their safety or very life is threatened (even if u think it is unlikely...)

Yes, s**t happens and no the world is not as bad as you guys portray. s**t does happen but thus is life. Life is not perfect but it far from the s**t hole that you guys make it out to be. I love how you guys act as if burglars are some kind of tactical strike force team that break into your house with no effort and are so good at what they do they are in and out with everything in your house in little to no time and thats with disarming an alarm, slitting the dogs throat, assasinating your entire family all while looking through all your stuff. It's a bit un realistic.

Say you have an alarm. all of a sudden your alarm starts freaking out screaming loud noises. It alerts the police (and scares off the burgler more then likely) the police arrive in five minutes. At the giant schauzer is alert and know where the burgler is. BARK BARK BARK "HOLY s**t BIG DOG" (this would scare off a person usually too) the burler shoots the dog and manages to get into the house (KEEP IN MIND YOUR HOUSE ALARM IS STILL YELLING) (That would at least take 3-5 minutes to get in the house) The burgler hears cop siren(this should scare off burgler.) But it doesn't he is looking to kill someone. I'm in the master bedroom with the door locked. Burgler goes to the door and Bam blow the door to pieces. The cops break the front door and confront burgler.

Now would that situation ever happen? No, burgler want to steal stuff not murder people for fun. What about the people that do? 1 in every 18000 people(ish) in the united states has comitted murder (population divided by murders) and I doubt one of these people would go through all of that risk in order to kill someone just to get caught.

i wish we lived in a world where guns werent needed, but we dont. i hope i never have to end a human life, but if someone breaks into my house, and i feel as if my family is threatened, hes going to get shot. and you say that most people just want to steal stuff, they dont want to kill. if someone breaks in, would you like me to make him a glass of tea, and have a conversation about what his intentions are? not gonna happen. if someone illegally enters our house, i will automatically assume he intends to do me and my family harm and act accordingly.

it's interesting that all these political threads turn to gun control.

Those sound like choices on your part. I know a bunch of properties use alarms and I've never seen an apartment complex that will 100% allow dogs. To live in a certain place is a choice. If you choose to live in a horrible neighborhood or live in a place that doesn't allow dogs then that is a choice not a problem. I don't own a fire extinguisher or a smoke detector. There are smoke detector pre installed in my apartment but I had no hand in putting them in.

It's amazing how many people use the word NEED in the same breath as the word IF. If something doesn't normally happen then you don't need it. For example lets say I can't swim then I need a floatation device if I go swimming. Now if I never swim why would i need a floatation device? Just for the situation that I might fall off a bridge into a lake or ocean? Should I then keep floaties in my car to keep me from drowning? I never said anything about a cup of tea or having a conversation. Optimally I would like to have the burglar behind bars not in the morgue.

It's because people on the republican side usually try and insist they need weapon. They even try to tell people they need automatic weapons for hunting.

you can't just blame republicans. my grandfather has been a democrat for most of his life and he's a big firearms supporter when it comes to handguns. :what: he owns several and keeps one on his person outside his house...

i don't the automatic thing, though. don't understand why anyone but military personnel should have those. :what:

let me guess, democrats just need JiuJitsu?

:rolf:

people used their fists for protection until bad guys started using spears
spears were sufficient until they started using swords and arrows....
swords and arrows fell to guns.

if you could take away the guns, people would go right back to swords and arrows....
you ask a law abiding gun owner and a criminal to give up their guns or face incarceration, the law abiding citizen would give up his gun.... the criminal would say "what gun" then go murder or rob the defenseless citizen

the need to protect ones self will never go away, but taking away ones ability to defend them self will never happen in a free society.

or, simply put, disarming peaceful & law abiding citizens only serves to empower violent criminals

if it had not been for strict anti-gun laws designed to disarm the nazis, hitler would not have been able to kill millions of people without resistance

the government should have no more power than the people choose to give them
the peoples ability to protect themselves should match the governments ability to oppress.

a government that is truly of the people, by the people, and for the people cannot be above the people in any way

its a choice dictated by my financial situation.... some choices are dictated by external conditions.. i choose to live in an apartment in a fairly good area, and im not saying i can't own a dog.. im not saying i cant get an alarm.. im saying i KNOW of rental properties that would b***h abotu things like that...
