93Hatch Wire Tuck

I want to do a wire tuck on my 93 Hatch. I noticed that a lot of the threads regarding "Wire Tucks" they mention soldering the wire.

Can anybody tell me what type of wires I need in order to use for soldering the wire harness? I have an old wire harness laying in the garage that I don't use at all. Can I use some of the wires from old harness?

I am not an expert on wire harness and soldering.

just need the same gauge wire. so just cut, lengthen, soder, shrink and tuck.

its very, VERY time consuming. i know Chaos is in the middle of one right now

Using wire from your old harness would be ideal, as it's all the same gauge for the most part. Do you have a solder gun? You'll need to buy some heat shrink too, and then use a blow drying or heat gun to shrink it. Just extend whatever wires you want to to tuck them where you want to. Most common tucked wires are the headlight harnesses; putting them through the fenders. An engine harness tuck is more extreme as commonly you would run it through a main hole underneath your heater core hoses instead of running it through each side on the bay. Depends how far you want to go with the tuck, but there's a huge thread on HT with a bunch of different tuck styles.

I started doing the tuck... I'm not an expert on electronic wiring or car stuff, but I'm really enjoying doing the tuck... I started the driver side, which i think is the easiest. It's taken a lot of of time, but I've it's fun and i've taken a trip to Fry's Electronices to get wire tubing. Still need to go back to get extra wiring

The "wire tuck" threads have really helped. And you have to be a lil creative also. I'll try to post new pics of my progress.

Which Fry's do you go to? I work at the one in City of Industry, CA.

So far I wire tucked my passenger side head light harness and put it in my fender. I also move around a couple of wires and removed some brackets that were holding them up. It looks a bit better but I know I have a long ways to go. I havent gotten as far as cutting and soldering new wire.
Im thinking of going to the junkyard and getting some harness' so I can wire tuck and keep the same type wire as an extension.

I go to the one in Burbank, CA. it's the closest.. I really don't want my bay for show, but I really want to see a clean one when i open the hood.

I really didn't like the service at Burbank's Fry's. They haven't had Extended Tubing for 2 weeks already. They haven't stocked up. I went first for my LCD flat screen wiring, but I came out with stuff to do the tuck.

Make sure you get the heat shrink tubing... It really has come handy in my tuck. I've also picked up some "Techron-Tron" vinyl grommet for the engine bay holes. the Vinyl grommet prevents the metal from cutting the wires when you insert the wires throught the fender and firewall.

I really like the way they both work.. On turns, they both do the work.

two is better than one... lol I was able to tell the difference once I installed them.. Especially on turns.

I've been working night and day and i haven't had anytime to work on my tuck... I've gotten some supplies to help me out with the tuck.

I hope I have time this weekend coming up to work on my tuck..

I was able to finish the driver side. I neatly put the wires through the wire cover and liked how it came out. I have to say that the threads have really helped a lot.
