So I'm finally going to get a PS3, but probably will use it mostly for Blue Ray watching and media viewing via the pc/internet. PS2 compatibility is a plus but not necessary. Which one is the best version to get?

the 60gb that was had its last production run in august 2007. that one still retains all the memory card slots and has ps2 reverse compatibility. i'm not 100% but i think that one has wifi as well.

the current ones (80gb and 160gb bundle) are not ps2 compat and do not have the memcard slots. they do have wifi, though. there is a table in the playstation website that describes the differences.

so i found out last night i can play soul calibur iv with japanese voiceovers wooot!!

Yeap, it was march. they started to disapear off shelves in august right before or after the price drop I believe. because in june they started production of the 80G Motorstorm Bundle PS3.

and no they weren't all made in japan, seems like most of the 60GB were made in china, yes even the Launch 60GB were too. at first i though they were all japanese made too but i was wrong untill i got lucky with one and did a little research.
After the March production was over, sony closed down the Japan factory and has had foxconn of china manufacture all ps3's till this date.

you guys been on the japanese home servers in their central plaza and other locations around there? theirs is SO MUCH NICER AND BETTER, ours looks like crap, too bad nobody really talks english and typing in the english alphabet is a pain on there with a keyboard.

the 60GB CECHAxx is the best ps3 to have... full emotion engine, memcard slots, 4 usb ports, and wifi.

i'm not sure which 60gb i have... no problems with backwards compatibility, though... the only thing i've had an issue with is not being able to use the analog sticks with PSone ports of SNES games... and i don't remember if the sticks worked on the PSone, either.

btw, anf, that must actually be chinese then. that's chuugokujin in japanese, since that's all i know.
