Blown Motor, Build Parts?

Hey guys, on my way home last night my engine finally breathed is last breath. It lasted 1yr and 11 months with 8lbs of boost making 253HP.

Now I need to, at the very least, build the block and maybe the head depending on cash. I have my own preference for parts, GE Sleeves, JE pistons and rings, Eagle rods and crank, Skunk2 or Crower if I build the head. I was on Honda-tech and they have a lot of built b16’s for sale on there but that just seems a bit too much of a risk…

Any reason not to go this way with parts? What would you do?
Thanks for the options/opinions.

you dont need to upgrade the crank. honda cranks are VERY strong. plus i have seen eagle cranks that are broken in half and i dont like to spend money where its not necessary so my advice would be keep the stock crank and that will allow you to save some money for other areas of your build.

Yeah yo go to FTJ Distributors and cop a Turbo bottom end package comes with Vitaras some custom forged rods, they make them specially for honda motors. Check em out.....Basically u need pistons, rods, rod and main bearings (ACL makes decent ones) and thats pretty much it. I would have the whole motor checked over by a machine shop....head etc...Re-do all the seals, re-seat valves etc....Just to be same....

p.s. do u know why u blew the motor. I can put money on it ur oil pump siezed up and caused you to push a rod..........IF so, id replace the oil pump while ur at it...and get it ported and shimmed..

what was the mileage logged on it? should have lasted longer than 23 months IMO if it was professionally tuned :what:

... unless you beat on it daily ?

15-20K miles on it. I didnt beat it daily with gas prices being the way they are but it was raced (autox) 6-8 days each of the last two summers.

2000 USDM B16a2 block and a '93 JDM Head. it was supposed to be a full '00 block and head but I got screwed over so I worked with what I had. I'm thinking about buying an '00 bare head so I finally get the base that I wanted.

Yeah when I got there I found all that place sells is stuff for D's

9.0:1 or 8.5:1 comp pistons? I need quick response for autox and road racing in the future. I've been trying to research the ideal compression for my usage and wasnt able to find much.

Someone contacted me with a bare B16a3 block for $150 and I'm trying to track down a 99-00 B16a2 head. Any reason an a3 block would be bad besides its from like 94-95?

9.0:1, but don't people prefer to stay NA on the autox?

My last setup lasted four seasons on the track and dozens of pulls on the dyno. The 2 major factors to a reliable motor is the break in, and the tune. What broke on your current setup?

Yes NA would probably be better for autox but I went a different way...

We're not sure yet what happened. I just got it today to my cuz's shop and he's going to start looking at it tomorrow.
