I was trying to do the back lit PS button mod on the controller last night, I got it appart then we realized we didn't have any damn solder to work with, so I had to put it back together. After about 3 hours I finally got the damn controller back together! Disassemble = 10 minutes, reassemble = 3 hours.... who ever designed these controllers needs a bullet in his head! I was flipping out! lol

tearing things apart without having all the proper materials will do that

well that wasn't the case, there are these little things that need to go between the R1 and R2 and L1 and L2 buttons that are a b***h to get in, Also, the way they have a ribbon cable just pressed against the board for the buttons to work and such, if its off just a bit, the controller is not working. It should atleast plug into something. Its stupid.

yeah, that would be a fun mod if i had the time.

I dont see too many modded ps3 controllers.
i'm guessing the sixxaxis and internal battery contributes to the difficulty of modding a ps3 controller

the sixxaxis isn't really a problem at all. Its basically just one chip, like a gyrometer in an ipod touch or iphone.

Its the fact that they are a b***h to put back together is what keeps people from modding.

i took the screws out of the ps3 controller and couldnt get it apart, so i said f**k it, im noy gonna mess with it. i was trying to open it up because the r2 trigger on my DS3 is like really sensitive, it takes the slightest touch to activate the R2 button and i got a sixxaxis just sitting there, so i was hoping to swap whatever broke that keeps the tention on the R2 button onto the Dual shock 3,

i remember the Dualshock 2s were a piece of cake to take apart though...

what keeps the tension on the button is one little spring, thats all.

There is a clip below the ps button that you have to like pry apart with a flat head to get the controller open.

finally did it! My PS button lights up blue and my 1 through 4 light up blue now instead of red.

Gotta love being a modding nut and having all the right tools and leds you need.

Really all I planned on doing was the PS button, but I said f**k it, we have all these blue SMD's why not. I was originally going to go all red, since my xbox is modded with all red, well I figured ps3 can be blue. I'd get a pic but its really not showing too well.
