Ok so i know a whole system for under $500 is really guna limit the quality but im only 16 and money is real tight so wat are my options. I only need 2 door speakers and i have plenty of room for a sub or amp. Any suggestions?

get a bazooka tube. i had one in my ef sedan and it wasnt too loud, but it still hit pretty hard. a plus is you can still kee your hatch for random s**t too.

Infinity kappas, rockford subs, 0 gauge wiring, dry cell, deck, amp. Athough I would recommend getting a 2 channel deck instead of a 4 channel unless you plan on upgrading to 4 speakers. The number one cause for speakers to blow is being under powered.

lanzar and legacy make decent stuff. they arent the high end s**t that everyone says is so great, but i get along with mine just fine. i have one 12" sub and an 800 Watt amp, and they sound great. if you have a nice headunit it makes it a lot nicer.

I know not many people care for them but I've always loved the way 10" pioneer subs sound. they're usually pretty cheap. I say just go to best buy and see what you can get.

Incorrect. Underpowering will never blow a speaker.

what about headunit? front speakers? 2 channel amp? custom box for the sub? not some prefab from best buy..he might as well do it correctly the first time around.

yeah, my hatch already came with a head unit and mids so I was good on those. The only way he'll get a complete system for under $500 bucks if is he goes to a flea market or buys it hot.

i disagree a bit. I think he could get a couple door speakers, sub, head unit, and a small amp to push the sub for around 500 ish. I agree that it will be entry level s**t, but i dont think he is going for competition quality. He's 16 and just wants a little knock in the trunk. Ive done many an install in my day (im an old fart) with some stuff i personally wouldnt buy and been impressed with the overall quality at the end. like Lotz said, lanzar, legacy, etc decent for low $$ install. Tons of discount sites like this one online. http://www.cardiscountstereos.com/ thats my 2 cents anyway. good luck with the install.

depends....can't go wrong with either to be honest. from a pure sound quality stand point, that clarion is amazing for the price. if u plan on learning the in's and out's of car audio, go with the clarion since it's future proof. if you just want something that's gonna sound good, go with the kenwood.

is there anything that is pretty much the same as the clarion but looks better?

No..

active crossovers are usually only found in units that cost 300+

and 6 volt preouts? even the most expensive indash navi units don't have that...
