If I refuse, will I get a infraction?
I was simply pointing out that the OP would benefit more by you following your comment with some type of explanation. Or is it that you don't have any reason for your comment, and you just want to be a smart ass?

I have an explanation, but don't care enough to express my concerns on why he should stay away. Plus, I wanna be a smart ass.

If you start with a reliable foundation, it'll be easier to keep it that way as you mod it. I personally wouldn't buy a vehicle that has already been modified. Find a car that has been treated well and not messed with. Generally speaking... as far as potential and responsiveness to modification

K > B > D

K series engines are the most responsive to modification and have great potential, followed by B series, and finally D. D tending to be the slowest vehicles stock as well. However, they're also going to be the cheapest.

i would go with a 92-95 civic...

wired for vtec ftw..
Thanks for that! I've been pouring over specs, and they are helpful. I just wonder about thing's like mymmerloss posted, if certain models already have a leg up on other's one way or another.

For instance, say you buy a 82-92 Camaro with a 2.8 or 3.1 V6 in it, unfortunately, in order to put any Chevy V8 in, you have to change the trans as well, which add's to the cost overall. Just thing's like that.

And as for don't expect alot, I don't expect ten's, I have a car that does that anyway, horses for courses lol. I do live 48 miles from my shop, one way, so I want to get there economically and with a bit of fun on the side.

Thanks for all the help thus far guy's, I appreciate it.

You'd help the OP by giving some explanation for your advice.
Because its a drug. Worst kind of drug known to man. You'll tell yourself you wont spend money on your car, unless you absolutely need it. Then, before you know it, you'll have sunk over $2000 into it, and you still have a stock, slow, FWD SOHC. You'll want to make it look nice, so you'll spend money on the exterior, and if its older, you'll either want a new paintjob, or spend money on materials to either paint it yourself, or recondition it yourself. Then, you'll want it to handle nicely. So you'll spend money on suspension. Then you'll wanna go fast. So you'll look into swapping motors, which gets pricey. Then, depending on where you live and what motor you go with, you'll have to worry about theifs. So, either way, you'll be putting tons of money into it.

That a detailed enough explanation for ya, Ron?

Lol, you do have a point there, but I've already been down that road and learned to appreciate vehicles for what they are, not try to make them into what they are not.

not out for a race car, I have several, some turn, some go straight. Just out for a DD.

Yea, but your gonna spend all that on a daily driver. You say you wont now, but wait a few years, and see what happens. ;)

Hatch or a coupe, just for looks. As far as power... I just need it to get out of it's own way without making me want to light it on fire, like I do the Prizm I DD right now.

My Prizm handles for s**t, sounds like s**t, and is as slow as s**t... It also looks like it. What kind of power does it take to put a Civic in the mid to low 15 range? Because that's plenty quick enough for DD satus for me.

If you want to hit somewhere close to 15's with a little spunk and style, and NOT have to worry TOO much about thieves. I would recommend picking up the late 90's hatch you wanted. Swap in either a B16a2 (6th gen Si), B18c1 (GSR), or... if you had the cash, any of the K-series motors. These motors power with the combination of the light weight vehicle will make it a lot more fun to drive. It'll give the car a whole new feel as you'd have that extra spunk getting onto the highway, or to pass up slow moving vehicles and etc...

My ultimate recommendation, for the best bang for buck would be a '96+ Civic Hatchback HX with a '96+ B18c1 motor (both OBD2). It'll have the decent gearing to land yourself at least 30+ highway mpg, and have that speed you'll desire for. Plus, with this motor, it's a huge stepping stone to achieve so much more! Also, if you keep the exterior somewhat stock looking, it'll be under the radar for theives to try and target you.

Good luck!

I'd rather DD something with better interior than a Honda.

I actually have a B18C5, from my girlfriends old Integra, which is what put me on the path to looking for a HOnda to DD. That thing was pretty quick, fun to drive, and got pretty good mileage. Thanks for the tips man

I have thing's with nicer interiors than a Honda, lol. The problem is, there's no shower in the shop, so when I get in covered in grease, I kind of want to ruin the interior of a car worth like 2500 bucks instead of one worth 20 times that much, lol.

I think some of you misunderstand me. I'm not some 17 year old kid who's been playing too much Need for Speed. I understand what Honda's are, and what they aren't. they aren't my GT 500 or my girlfriends G8 GT, and they never will be. As impressive as Honda's can be, I'll never go that far with one. I can see it for what it is, and use it for what it is.

I wouldn't take my 8 second Mustang offroad, and I don't try to drag race my Jeep. I could do either if I really wanted to, but it just doesn't make much fianancial sense, lol.

Thanks for the input guy's, I think I'm on the right path now.

That B18C5 will pack quite a wallop if combined in a little hatchback! Looks like you're headed in the right path; good luck with seeking out the right chassis for that motor!
