Mistakes happen, it would've sucked, but you know what? Life goes on. It's not the end of the world. :what:

How do you think the guys in the 30s, 40s and 50s played without all this? It's because they did it for the love of the game, and 90% of the guys in Baseball don't do it for that, they do it for the big money which is why most of the professional sports suck.

Yea I was kinda thinking that too. If they had replays in baseball for close plays at a bag, it seems it would take away from the game rather than contribute to it....

Human error can make or break a game, but I guess that's what keeps it interesting...

baseball is all about history, and records, and stats. That's why a lot of fans are bitter about some players "cheating with steroids." The MLB also refuses to adapt and acknowledge that human error can cause too much of an issue. And i think its real ironic that a perfect game was ruined because of human error. There is absolutely NOTHING else that prevented the game from finishing.

You would think that another umpire on the field would've come over to first base and say "look you got that wrong, we're gonna reverse that." I'm a huge orioles fan and this game in addition to the O's season is really making me look forward to the fall for the Ravens.

well the world changes, man. Try walking to work tomorrow. That's how they did it in the 1910's but you might be annoyed if you had to do that nowadays...

This is Bud Selig's perfect change to make a change that people have been calling for for a long time.

i doubt any sport had instant replay in the 30s, 40s, and 50s. the technology didnt exist for an instant replay to occur within a moment of occuring, like we have today. Human error was probably acceptable because there was no way around it back then.

Giving Baseball instant replays will the absolute worse thing they could do to the sport. I get bored by it enough, but once they add Instant replays and challenges, it'll ruin the sport.

Human error was acceptable because people weren't like they are today. They were there to play a game, have some fun and do what they enjoy. Today, it's all about stats for that next big paycheck. I say leave the sport as is, it's already boring enough as is.

Regardless of what we (fans) want, let's be realistic about it. Replays are bound to be implemented sooner than later. Sure, some may argue that it's gonna either make or break the game, but nonetheless, it's going to happen. I just hope it happens in moderation, as to not ruin the game much more than it already has been (steroid usage, salary cap, etc etc). I agree with Mr. Jollypants about most of what he says here, but unfortunately it's not going to survive that way anymore. The demand to be able to review close plays is too high. I personally don't want to see replays in baseball, but if they must, I'd like to see a challenge system implemented. I don't think it would be so bad if each team were given 2 challenges/game, if and only if the first challenge overturns a call. If the play stands, I don't think that team should be able to use the 2nd challenge.......just my opinion.

two things. first, if you are so bored, then you probably aren't watching much baseball anyway so they probably can't win you back with or without replays. the game isn't getting any faster.

and second, you're right that challenges would a terrible idea. but i think there is a way to get the calls right without spending more then an extra 15 seconds on the play. Put a fifth umpire in a booth somewhere to watch close calls in instant replays. give him a walky-talky and put a freaking speaker and an antenna on the home plate umpires mask...

As much as I'm personally against adding replays in MLB, Technology > human eye. Sad but true.

ehh I feel it takes away from what the game was originally meant to be rather than contribute to it. Of course, we can argue that steroids and money have changed it too, but either way, the league doesn't need something else to take away from it.

Instant replay would definitely ruin the game imho... but it's nothing that steroids haven't already done :oh:

You win in baseball by the other team mistakes..........that's the game

If you make everything perfect, were there's no mistakes, from the players or the umpire you loose what baseball is all about. They already have an umpire covering each base on the field, then they have 3 of them looking at the outfield for the home runs and close plays. That's where you need the instant replay in effect, since there's more margen for error due to the distance.

Even Armando Galarraga is taking this like a man and accepting the apology from Jim Joyce. It's all the media and people that want instant replay to be inforce that are making more noice.................
