Is it really so hard for the City Council (or whatever equivalent they have in NYC) to just re-zone the area surrounding the site as a "no new construction at all" area or something to that effect? Just say that no one with the exception of the City of New York can build any new building within suchandsuch radius of Ground Zero?

IF the intention was really to bridge Muslim non Muslim relations why the hell pick such a controversial location.. it makes no sense...

I think the bottom line is one can't persecute people because of their radical past. Look at any group and you will see that they caused as many issues as the muslims.

Cristians look at the crusades they mudered millions

Athiests look at what Hitler did with the holocaust.

Should christians not be allowed in Europe because they wrecked things in the past. The same question should Athiests be banned from Germany because Hitler and the Nazis did? I think people should be looking at improving the life of others instead of banning people from putting up a place of worship.

But I agree, that this is a sensitive situation and the location itself maybe insensitive, they should of just picked another location nearby to stay out of the spotlight, but legally they have every right to do what they want.

there are churches near ground zero, too. there's already a mosque a few blocks away, and this community center is still a few blocks away from ground zero. just sayin'.

a mosque is a holy building and therefore covered under rights that allow for free practice of religion.. a "community center" isn't s**t and therefore not covered by any rights to practice anything..

Okay and 1/3 of blacks are in on stage or another of the criminal justice system. So we should just take away ALL of blacks rights since 1/3 of them hurt the rest of us. This is the SAME logic, you are applying regulations to a MASS amount of people based on what SOME of them have done.
