Me too. His excuse was that he hadn't started it at all that day and think that is very bad.

The only time I let my car idle before I drive it is when it snows. I start the car, clear the snow off, get in and drive off.

OK all of you that quoted me are dumb, and I mean that as politely as possible. REREAD my post. I didn't stipulate saving GAS money. I said save money by making my friggin lunch..that was part of my multi task while the car is warming up.

Gas money isn't s**t to me. I spend not even $50 a MONTH total in fuel. I'll continue to let it warm up; esp when it gets -0* here.
Hey all of you assholes! QUIT TALKING CRAP TO MY GIRLFRIEND!

kthnxbai.

Duuuh that's a given ;)

who cares. It's a 1.6L for godsake. Not like we're letting a 5.7L V8 idle for a while.
i don't care what you do to your car im just stating the facts of cold starting newer cars to the op and who ever else thinks that there car is required to idle in the winter.

It is all personal opinion! Said and done... I prefer to let my car warm up a bit, 1-2 minutes... let it get the fluids moving and such, starting your car and taking off is not good I don't care if it is new or old... You have to get all the fluids moving and going before take off.. You start it slap in drive and go, that is not good... However 10-20 seconds is plenty to allow this to happen.... Now letting it run for 10 minutes is not a bad thing, other than gas and like Low said it is not about "Gas" it is about letting her warm up while doing other stuff... Lunch or Removing snow...

Personally I start mine, let it warm for a min or 2 depending on how late I am and then drive slow and careful until she is warm... If I had remote start I would warm her up so I had a nice warm car to get into to!

But if you ask me Civic's are like any other female they like to be warmed up before you put the stick in gear...

If you guys really are worried about saving money by driving instead of letting your car idle, you really need to think about getting more jobs or a better job. That is absolutely ridiculous. Cold engines run richer and use more fuel regardless of how you warm it up.

If you really want to save some money on gas, park the damn thing inside your house.

i have remote start. so before i exit my car after i park it, i put a brick on the gas pedal. that way when i remote start its bouncing off the rev limiter until it is warm.

I just crank and go, I don't get on it before it warms up though. Which you shouldn't do regardless of temperature.

I never said I thought I was saving money, but I leave my car in gear....therefore a remote starter is out of the question. And a lot of times I just dont have the time. If its SUPER cold out and I randomly for whatever reason have the time, I may go outside to start it up. But that happens less than once a year.
