so after years if thinking about it.... and years of being broke... i am finally going to buy a macbook.
im going to buy a 13" macbook pro
i know a ton of you here have apple computers... and can probably help me out.
a few things i need help with....
since the beginning of windows....i have used it....
for a brief stint... i used an original macintosh when i was in middle school. since then.... it has been all windows for me.
i am making this move to a macbook because i want change. im tired of what windows has to offer. im tired of all the problems windows has brought me. i just want something different.
so.... with that said... what should i be aware of? i have been to apple.com and looked through all the videos they had on pc to mac basics and how to use the different apps that come standard on the macbook.
i am choosing a 13" because thats what i can afford. im choosing a pro because i like the all aluminum construction. i dont like white... it gets dirty too easy. and i like the backlit keyboard that comes with the pro.
i didnt choose the air because i need a cd drive....lol
now... i have an external 1TB HD that i have hooked up to my PC.. it holds EVERYTHING related to my life. it was difficult for me to decide to put everything on one drive.. because i was always in fear of it failing... so... i used 4 separate drives for the longest time. one of my largest drives...a 250GB... contained my windows partition... i used this drive because it was the best drive i had. it also contained all of my music...
well... one day last year i had a driver problem. and it crashed windows and would not let me get past the BSOD on startup. needless to say.. i had to reformat... and i was very upset.
im sick of this...lol
so another reason to go to a macbook....
anyway... the external drive..... can i use it on my mac and access my information? i understand a few things may not be able to be opened... but i still have my PC.... im not buying this to replace anything really...
so.. i guess my question is.. any of you have a mac and PC and use them both and share information between the two?
also... i have everything on a network throughout the house.. like... my blu ray player.. Xbox360, Directv HDDVR, 2 PC laptops and one desktop PC.
i have a lynksys router that runs tomato firmware.....dont worry.. the rught person would know what that means.
will my mac be OK on my network? and will i be able to share information between all? currently i can stream movies from the external drive.... through the desktop PC... through the directv HDDRVR.. and then onto the TV. also can get those same movies through the Xbox360... as well as all my laptops.. i consider my network to be running in top shape... it took me a long time to get everything working right...lol
also... should i buy the apple care protection plan? i am not hard on my computers... and i definatly dont plan on being rough on my mac.. it will be the largest computer investment i have ever made though. i built my desktop from the ground up... so... other than my wifes laptop... i have not paid true retail for a computer...the laptop i use now... an IBM T23... i bought at one of those electronics sales that you find at convention centers for a weekend... i paid 400 for it in 2007.. it hasnt let me down...
every experience i have had with protection plans is that everything will be great and flawless throughut the time period of coverage.... and then coverage expires.. and then the problems start.
im waiting on my Xbox to get a RROD because its a little over a year old...lol theres no reason it should.... im just saying..lol
so... can you guys help me out?
