Should I not bother replacing the front and rear's? They probably wouldn't be THAT big of an upgrade huh.

And I don't think I have any 3-pin connectors on my PSU. I checked yesterday and didn't recognize anything that would look like it would fit into the 3-pin connectors on the pictures of the fans. But I could be wrong.

I didn't buy the one to replace the cone but I bought the side fan you told me to get... Holy s**t it's loud but does it move some air . It feels like a f**king regular fan . I would upgrade my other 2 120mm fans to this one but it'd be one loud f**king machine lol. I have my video card fan fixed to 90% and that's almost as loud as this new fan. What I love about the positioning of this fan on top of the CFM is it blows directly onto the video card and just below the CPU, that little metal chunk that gets really hot. I hope this helps a lot with cooling.

So my computer has been on for maybe an hour and a half.. I turned it on and walked away. I just came upstairs and something smells like it's burning. Is this usual? Does the fan need some sort of break in period? Or is something wrong? It smells like electrical burning or something.

I would shut the computer down immediately and try to find the source of the smell. Sometimes new components have that smell when they are burning off excess material, but definitely try to find where the smell is coming from.

My repair room smells like burnt electrical components from the burn ins I do in the room, plus other "accidents"

I just fired up the computer and immediately, I smell the same thing I smelled earlier coming from the exhaust fan on the top. I'll let it warm up and see if there is anything that is putting off that kind of smell.

edit - I just pulled the side off and stuck my head into the case, didn't smell anything. I stuck my face in front of the new fan, that's where the smell is coming from. I turned the computer off and stuck my head in the case again, smell isn't there. It's coming from the fan. Should I e-mail newegg?

edit edit - screw it. I e-mailed Scythe directly. An electrical burning smell can never be good.

edit edit edit - I unplugged the fan and the smell is gone. Now I'm 110% sure it's the fan lol. I hope this is either normal or they give me a free replacement and pay for shipping for both the return and the new one . I don't think I've ever returned a computer product I've bought off newegg. I've done a ton of transactions too.

Well I ended up doing an RMA on the fan. newegg charged me $9 to ship it back. Pretty sure I'm paying a re-stocking fee too. I was pissed about that. But I ended up buying 4 more scythe fans, 3x 120mm 65cfm and 1x 80mm 28cfm.

I got the fans today and ever since I put these 4 fans in, I've been dual boxing WoW for about 3-4 hours now and keeping SpeedFan open in the meantime. Temp 1, HD0, HD1, and Core have all been a red check mark or "cooler". Usually, they're all hot and temp1 is normally the flame icon. I haven't seen a flame icon at all in the past 4 hours. When I'm not playing any games and just surfing FireFox, all the previously mentioned temps are all a blue arrow pointing down. This is awesome! When I put my hand over the exhaust fan, the air is actually COOL and the case doesn't get warm anymore. Even better!! I'm so glad I finally have a cooler machine.

Is there a specific way to achieve maximum cooling? I have a front, 2 side (80mm and 120mm), 1 rear, 1 top (exhaust), and obviously the psu fan. I have everything blowing in except the exhaust on top the the psu obviously.

There's a certain way to keep the fans performing optimal. Can you take a picture the side of your computer with the side off so I can do a diagram?

Oh another question... Is it safe to use the 3-4 pin connectors that came with the fan as "extension cords"? My power supply didn't have any empty plugs for me to hook the fans up to so I used the 3-4 pin connectors in between connections to get power to my fans.

Side fans, make them blow IN.

Rear fan, blow OUT.

Front fan, blow IN.

Does the power supply push air in, or pull air out?


Cable management is also an issue here. Zip ties are your best friend. Cable management will give you a pretty good temperature increase from increased airflow.

Yeah my cables are all f**ked up lol. I gotta spend time and re-route them to give me maximum air flow efficiency.

PSU sucks from under it, blows out the back of the case. So I should have the PSU and rear fan blow out? I thought I would have the highest fans (exhaust on top and PSU) blow out and everything else in.

If it is, I'm gonna have to find a new way to power 3 of my fans . Only 1 plugs into the mobo. The rest are running of off 3-4 pin connectors that are in between things.

Yeah, everything blow in, have the two suck out. If you want, you could try having the big fan on the bottom of the side blowing out, so it's sucking the hot air off the video card and hard drives and see how that changes the temperatures.

But that's a lot of hot air you're pushing around in the case. Have it pull out and see how it works.

You don't need a bigger CFM fan.

it is normal for windows to only recognize 3.25gb of memory if you are using a 32 bit operating system getting a 64 bit will fix this and speed up your pc just a little.you should be using the number one sata slot for your boot drive, im sure it works how you have it but the number one slot is for the boot drive.i personally hate windows 7 to so i would windows vista ultimate 64 bit

you should be using the number one sata slot for your boot drive, im sure it works how you have it but the number one slot is for the boot drive

Are you f**king kidding me? I had my XP drive in Sata2_2 so I put it into Sata2_1 and left my Vista (back-up / secondary) drive in Sata2_0 and it doesn't beep at start-up anymore AND I don't get NLTDR is missing anymore. Everything is completely normal now. What the f**k!!!!!

You probably originally had your hard drives in different slots, which is why the error went away. Slot number 1 would be Sata2_0 and number 2 would be Sata2_1 and number 3 would be Sata2_2.
