I also just say where he said he wouldnt run for re election. This is not going to be enough though the people are serious they want him out now. The army has already said they will not use force against the protestors so he is going to have to give in IMO anyway no other way to get them to stop.

^You're correct. The internet service has been partially restored today.

They're fighting now. It's become violent. Mubarak supporters began attacking protesters, and they're now fighting in the streets. Protesters have found IDs on some of these "supporters" and they are police oficers (the police in egypt are corrupt). I think today's going to be another big day for protesters. I'm hoping they can hold out, despite the level of seriousness that has come about.

Thats good that some of the internet has been restored. I saw two days ago on the news that the protestors had set up a checkpoint of their own and where checking ids in an attempt to keep our police. The presidents supporters attacking them will only make it worse for themselves the army isnt going to use force against them and they far out number the presidents supporters from what i know.

^^Agreed.

A lot of people went home, but a lot of them have stayed as well. UN has openly criticized Mubarak in response to the attacks as has the US (finally) and Turkey. The fighting is still happening. It hasn't stopped, in fact, they're preparing for another big conflict. The opposing groups are tossing molotov cocktails across barriers that are separating them and it's a huge face off. I don't know what's going to happen from here. Hopefully the people don't lose their resolve, but only time will tell. We'll see what happens over night and we'll see who shows up tomorrow morning.

lol, I have my opinions, but I'd rather keep this thread on topic.

The government is now on a mission to take out every journalist they find. There have been beatings today and several arrests. Camera equipment has been seized and/or destroyed in MANY instances. At least 9 Al Jazeera reporters have been arrested since the start of this. They have been released, but not with their equipment.

The battles are still going and Obama is working on a proposal to Mubarak to begin the government transition. Tomorrow is supposed to be a big day for the Egyptian pro-democracy protesters. All week they've been calling it the day of departure... the departure of Mubarak. I know they're organizing marches and calling for a large group of people to show. Only time will tell, but tomorrow should be another historic day.

Had an interesting talk about the whole Egypt thing in school today. It may be a little far-fetched but if the wrong people come into power in Egypt (radical Islamics) they want to go to war with Israel. And since the U.S. is an ally with Israel, an attack on them is an attack on the United States. And who knows what would happen if that war started...

"When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace."

Guys, what's going on in Egypt is actually a good thing. Mubarak has been in power for 30 years. That nigga is crazy. It was just a matter of time before this happened. The Egyptian government has been corrupt and even oppressive for a long long time. You'd get yo ass beat for expressing any thoughts about the government that would be deemed negative. We're talking about a ruler who set prisoners free and paid them to cause disturbances so he can be all like "see how unstable the country is without me?".

The protests are actually pretty peaceful and having spoken with my family there, the people are happy and simply want to get rid of a tyrannical ruler. All the crap you're hearing in the news about riots and looters and s**t are mostly people paid by government officials to act that way.... just so the police/military can have an excuse to use excessive force against the people.

Egypt is the 2nd largest recipient of aid from the US (behind Israel). I'm a little interested if there has been any US influence over what's going on.

Options...

1) Mubarak - a*****e dictator who maintains stability but robs the nations people and oppresses them..

2) Muslim Brotherhood - A bunch of Dbag religious terror supporting thugs..

no offense but I will take the dictator.. the last thing we need is another overly religious Muslim nation headed by extremist.. at least at the moment Egypt is an ally..

Actually.. if you've been following the situation, the muslim brotherhood has taken NO steps to try to seize power or even put up a potential leader. The egyptians have been completely unified and pacifistic since they began protesting the government. Christians, Muslims, Muslim brotherhood, and regular citizens.

Today, when it was time for Muslim prayer, the Christians formed a protective barrier around the muslims, protecting them from mubarak loyalists while they prayed. If that isn't beautiful, I don't know what is.

Also today, they discovered a "plain-clothes" police officer (keep in mind that the police are corrupt in egypt) trying to infiltrate Tahrir square with the peaceful protesters. In the past days, when this has happened, the police officer or other "pro-mubarak" individual would incite violence against the pro-democracy protesters. In America, if we found somebody like that in the middle of our ranks, we'd beat the s**t out of him, possibly kill him. What did the protesters do? They restrained him, and delivered him.. unharmed, to the military.

This is an amazing thing that's happening right now, and I support Egypt wholeheartedly. If I was close enough, I'd join them on the streets as they fight for a worthy cause. They are being physically beaten, abducted, having their houses robbed and damaged, their freedoms taken away, lies being told them and all media that opposes the government is being shut down and having its reporters/journalists detained and you know what? They don't give a damn. Nothing is stopping them. It just makes them fight harder. How can you not admire that? How can you not support that? That is what America is all about. That is what we have been taught in our history books, and those are the morals we've been taught as we've grown up. Fight for what you believe in.

It's a beautiful thing, and I'm looking forward to the day when they get their reward. No longer a government that represses, controls, and lies to them, but instead represents them - some thing we take for granted as a "given" every day.

but his days are numbered. And the government that replaces him is likely to include the Muslim Brotherhood, the world's oldest Islamist movement as well as one of its most feared.

Was that supposed to be an article proving that the brotherhood is going to take over?

All I read was "even though they have not announced any plans on taking over, they're likely to take over, and that's not really a bad thing" There were no facts that suggested the brotherhood was going to take over, and the article stated at least twice that it really wouldn't be all that bad even if they did.

I'll say it again - the brotherhood has shown no indication that they are going to try to take power.

they are not exactly the most popular/wholesome group so don't exactly expect giant banners indicating such.. you can hate on the dictator all you want.. but at least he has been an ally to us.. and relatively neutral.. sometimes things will not be giant blinking neon billboards..

He has been an ally to us, but a tyrant to millions upon millions of people. I'm not selfish enough to look past that for my own slight benefit. If I could, I'd stand in the streets and protest right beside them.

The rise of the brotherhood may not be in blinking lights, but what reason do I have to believe that it is going to happen. The absence of all evidence that it's true does not mean I should believe it's true. That doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Why should I start speculating and believing something that shows no prominence or even indication of existence?

On the other hand, I do know that millions of people are essentially living tortured, fearful lives and I'm NOT ok with that and will not be ok with that.
