The other day is was on a trip and i was not near a gas station when i looked and noticed my needle was on the red, but i had no gas light..

How do you find out whats wrong, or change the bulb?

I have a 2000 civic lx.

Thanks!

Sometimes the light does not come on until there is 1 gallon or less left in the tank.

But i thought, just assuming, if its in the red of the fuel indicator that it would mean it should be on?

And yea, is there any indicator to see if the bulb is out or a fuse besides taking it apart?

I would not assume that the low fuel indicator light is not working until you have 1 gallon or less in the tank and the light does not go on. I generally have about 2 gallons of gas in my tank when the gauge needle first enters the red zone.

is it bad for the engine if you run it till its out of gas?? cuz that would be a easy way to check to see if its working, just have a 5 gallon of gas in back and run it till its dry.

Right. Because it's a great way to destroy the fuel pump.
lame...sigh, i guess it doesn't really matter, its not like the fuel gauge is right there or anything lol.

Hey, first post here at clubcivic. This forum has helped me a lot, great source of information.

I was reading through the manual and there is a way to jump the sensor wires to test the light. You have to remove the rear seat and open up the access cover to the top of the fuel tank. Then disconnect the 3P connector and jump wires 1 and 3 (BLK & GRN/YEL). If the low fuel light comes on the sending unit may be bad if you know you have less than one gal in the tank. If you have more fuel then you will know that the light isn't bad.

Thought this was easier way to check the bulb rather than taking the dash apart. I'll try and get the page posted from the manual unless RonJ beets me to it.
