Mubarak has just spoken and said he will not step down until September. The crowd is not happy. Keep an eye on this explosive situation.

I was watching it live as he gave the speech. Dude is a stubborn d**k. It's time for him to go. It's been time for him to go. He doesn't understand - whatever he does, it won't be good enough to make up for all the s**t he did. The saga continues.

I personally think he's just power hungry. He's lived in a position of total and complete power over the people for 30 years. Do you think he can even imagine what it's like to not have that power anymore? I think he's holding on to it as long as he possibly can.

He said at some point today that he would step down then the statment he sent oiut after that said he wont step down till september, but he is giving almost all his power to the vp and will stay in just a symbolic role. He is sending out contradicting reports on purpose he is just trying to hold out as long as possible.

I watched as Suleiman made the statement of Mubarak's resignation. f**king right. The people are still dancing in the streets. I won't lie, my eyes teared up. A beautiful thing happened today.

Finally resigned... It was bound to happen eventually, he kept making attempts to make them happy but the protesters never gave up.

I find it ironic that everyone is cheering for the reform powered by the people when we literally have NO idea what will happen next... you assume it will be better.. and that could end up being the biggest mistake yet..

cool you now have a nation with one of the largest military forces in the world with NO president.. awesomeness.. can't wait to see who takes control..

No kidding. At this point it could delve farther into corruption or get better. I wonder what will happen.

This is good as long as the right people get into power.. Does anyone know what is going to happen now, is anyone even in charge?

You criticize us for being too optimistic. I criticize you for being too pessimistic. You have no clue that it will end up badly. You simply believe it will.

All eyes are on Egypt now. The entire world is watching. The military easily could have taken power by now if that was their true aim. They still could, but why not earlier? Why wouldn't they have done it already?

We're happy because a dictator no longer has control of the people and these people have a shot at living good lives in which their desires are reflected in their government, something we take for granted every day. You're damn right I'm cheering.

-Ordinary Egyptian people stood against a regime, peacefully, for 18 days.

-All of their technology was taken from them so that they couldn't build it bigger. They said "f**k it, we'll hand out flyers."

-Their homes were attacked by hired thugs. They said "f**k it, we'll form our own neighborhood watch groups."

-They were infiltrated by "pro-mubarak supporters" who turned out to be corrupt police, trying to scare them and/or incite violence from the "peaceful protesters". They said "f**k it, we'll arrest you and hand you over to the authorities."

-The world stood by, watched, and pretty much did nothing. They said "f**k it. We got this."

-Their dictator lied to them, lied to the nation, and lied to the world, punished all who he could with arrest, torture and deception. They said "f**k you. I will have my freedom."

And they succeeded in achieving their purpose. You're damn right I'm cheering.

what is the goal? Democracy in Egypt? what is the political makeup of Egypt? what does the majority of the Egyptian people want? do you have any idea?

to cheer because the majority of people in Egypt are organized and want peace and stability? that would be something to cheer over...

to cheer simply because one evil is gone is not a good idea IMO because you have no idea what you are getting..

regions in that area can destabilize quickly.. you will note that while I have stated that it might be a bad thing.. you will notice that while I think the region may get worse before it gets better.. I make no claim to be all knowing.. I am simply saying that a bunch of us yelling go Egypt.. when we have literally no idea WTF is going on makes us look stupid.. pessimistic? NO... I am just saying a watchful eye needs to be kept on what happens there..

you do know that some of the greatest dictators of all time surfaced during times of civil unrest exactly like this right?

yeah if Egypt gets a more democratic direction and honors its relations with the US that would be great.. on the other hand if they go f**king ape s**t and start to do their own thing that would be a bad thing.. since they have one of the strongest military in the world (somewhere in the top 20 I think)..

Go Egypt and Egyptians! Nicely done.

I hope this Mideast domino effect now tumbles toward Iran.
