I just bought a 98 civic lx from a friend and it doesnt look bad on the outside, but i would like to match the speed with the looks. Im new at this so i was looking for some tips. Does getting headers, cold air intake and intake manifold lead me in the right direction? (Again dunno where to begin since its first time).

It all depends on your budget and how much hp you are looking to make. That car has the y7 in it which dosent respond well to bolt ons and isnt an ideal platform for modding really no d series is. If you are just looking for a small boost mini me swap it and do all the bolt ons. Mini me swap is taking the vtec head from a d16y8 or z6 and putting it on your y7 block. Even that isnt going to net you much, but it will give you vtec and a little bit better of a platform to start on.

think of a human body...u wanna breath bttr then exhale..ur choice to start from..ether start wit intake(intak moni.throttle.cold air) or exhast (header.catback sys.muffler)....i got a d16z6 5spd...sohc(kinda bad cuz not dual) but im lookn for a lil spd then looks...jst dnt rice it out the wrg way and dnt only switch the muffler cuz ull jst make noise

^ if he does those mods on the y7 without a mini me he isnt going to see anything there is no reason to waste the money for those parts on a y7 even on a y8 or z6 it still isnt going to net you much.

he was talking about what the op said.
And making the best of a y7 is at least mini me swapping it.

I have to disagree. I had a Y7, bolt-ons helped a little. They didn't add a ton of horsepower but it was decent, it all depends on what you're expecting to gain from them. I did the mini-me swap and it was kind of a waste of time. I'm sure there was some power gain but nothing too noticeable, not anything more than bolt-ons gave me and you still have the Y7 gear ratios unless you swap the transmission as well. For me, it wasn't worth the effort. The only thing I really liked about it was the Y8 intake manifold.

has any one put turbo on any of the civics, and if so do u still go through the mini me swap and intake changes?

Undefeated D16y8......WOW
look i have got a d16y8 and im putting a disco potto turbo on it. if u dont know what that is u should research it. im prolly goin 2 blow maa engine quick but this is for fun(got a k24 on da side). but if u want to put one on there and not blow ur motor put a small t3. that should be fine for the motor. but really do the mini swap. go to a junk yard and gets the parts if you can.

thats a good idea and turbo is kinda high on prices, i actually live near a pretty big honda/ acura junkyard here in ga, so its easy for me to go and find what i need when i want

If your going to mini me it junkyard head would be fine just get it all checked out
Are you gonna go with a z6 head or y8

I dunno i went yest and they have both, they were both in good shape the y8 more than the z6. So i can go either way but im thinkin the y8 and hopefully put sme pics once i get it done. And im still deciding on the cold air Vsthe sri.

I believe the z6 head flows a little better than the y8 not 100 percent on that, but i believe it does not really to much other difference in between them the y8 intake mani is the best d series intake manifold though.
