While I mostly agree with you, the choking and body slamming is completely unnecessary.
I will agree that may have been excessive, but the guy kept refusing, II dont have any idea how the cop was expected to act in this case. Some force was obviously going to have to be applied for this man to follow the order given by the officer.

But another note yes it is a public place but if the security deems them to be causing a disturbance they have the right to remove them from the area. Same principle would go in other places, If your causing a disturbance in any public place the owner/authority has the right to ask you to leave or refuse service.
That's not exactly right. Somewhere like a restaurant can throw you out or refuse service because they are privately owned, Jefferson Memorial is not.

True but it is government property that is enforced by the security officers. There for the gov gives them the power to decide who to arrest or not, I believe forcing them to leave was totally acceptable. How it was done may have been not so professional or 100% appropriate but then again put yourself in the officers position. If you were trying to keep your work place professional and proper you'd get annoyed if a bunch of f**ktard hippies came in there acting like fools. They needto have some respect, its a monument not a dance party. Find another way to protest your disagreement!

yes, some force, but choking is just way too far for anything. You can kill a person by choking them.

If I was a cop, I wouldn't body slam or choke people, it just gives cops a bad rep.

After they were all detained they had them lined up on the ground, im guna have faith in the officers assuming they did that so they could read them their miranda rights.
Why would the cops read them their Miranda Rights?

If two requirements are met, then someone needs to be read their Miranda Rights. If these TWO requirements aren't met, then the Miranda Rights do not need to be read. Requirement #1 is the person in question needs to be in custody, i.e. arrested. Requirement #2 is the person in question is being interviewed. BOTH of those requirements must be met. Reading someone their Miranda Rights while putting the cuffs on is just made for t.v. bullsh*t, it's not needed.

o, so if they are going to be interrogated after being arrested then it is but if theyre just being put in cuffs to stop harm from happening its not. thats weird.

side note: after seeing your FB pic and ur sig, I see the connection. as well as vjf meaning ur name

Security decided that the dancing was a disturbance and obviously had asked them to leave, and obviously they hadn't. Security wouldnt have been that "agressive" if it was their first warning.
i can't wait till you get choked out and arrested for no reason then will see how you feel about it. side note i f**king hate cops all of them.

Or, if they are simply asking you questions on the side of the street, Miranda Rights do not need to be read because you are not in custody. Yes, vjf is my initials.

Your cool, bet you'll be proud to say those words when one happens to save you or a loved ones ass sometime..

Also I wouldnt be ignorant enough to put my self in that situation for a police officer to be tempted to do that.

(Sorry for the miranda rights misunderstanding as well.!)

You sir, are an ignorant bastard. Just because one or two cops abuse their rights every now and then does NOT mean that's is how all of them are. Go back under the rock in which you were born.

I think a lot of you guys are missing something... Cops deal with idiots every day. They're not there to put a smile on your face or hold your hand and walk you away from a situation you're not supposed to be in. If you're doing something wrong, you get in trouble.

Now, were the cos out of line? I'll agree with that. The cop who body slammed the one guy could've asked for another officer to come give him a hand and just help place the dudes arms behind his back instead of throwing him to the ground. BUT, he was resisting arrest. He was physically struggling while trying to be arrested/restrained. You could tell the cop was getting pissed because the dude was strong enough to keep his arms in front / above him.

The whole situation is shitty. I'm not trying to defend either side. But the cops are just doing their jobs.

Somebody finally gets it!!
(Sorry for the miranda rights misunderstanding as well.!)
No worries, now you know....that's what matters.
The government owns it so it's technically tax payers property
Again.....somebody finally gets it!!!

Lowlife9 let's try to calm it down with all the cop hate. All you see in the papers and the news is the mistakes, you never see the countless lives that police officers help every single day. They're people too. They're also just the messengers. They are sworn to uphold the law, but they don't MAKE the law. If you're pissed off for things that cops arrest people for, then contact your local politicians.
