Non vtec d16y8?

Alright, so I purchased my 97 Civic Ex roughly 2 years ago and was told by the owner that it is NON-Vtec. However, recently I have been doing research and my engine model is d16y8, according to the plate on my engine in my car, and everywhere on the internet it says that my model is only provided as V-tec only. So, was the owner wrong? Or is there a chance it can be non-vtec? I am new to this website and was wondering if anybody could help me.

If it still has a y8 in it then it has vtec, you bought it from an idiot

Wouldn't there be a green plug at the distributor as well if it has vtec?

All y8 are vtec so the other owner was wrong or unless it has a diffrent head but check if it has a solenoid that should give you the answer lol

If the vtec system began to malfunction and you had a spare y7 head. Or if the timing belt snapped and you destroyed the valves on the y8 head. Y7 heads are much cheaper. I've seen stranger swaps.

^ i dont think ive ever seen that swap lol
I can see the argument for getting one if something happened to the y8 head though just never seen anyone do that.
